Bush is doing it.

In February of ’03, I wrote The Greatness of George W Bush and argued that Bush, in response to 9/11 had set a new course in foreign policy notwithstanding the opposition of his own State Department, the EU and anyone else that mattered.

Even the leftist UK newspaper The Independent published an article in November headlined, If enough goes right in his next term, George Bush will have achieved greatness,

For George Bush, there can be no middle way. He is either doomed to failure, or destined for greatness. It is impossible to predict the outcome of the second half of his presidency, but on one point we can be absolutely certain. He is not about to subside into compromise or mediocrity. This president has set enormous events in motion. He has deployed bold strategies in pursuit of grandiose goals and visions. He has already changed the course of American history, ensuring that he will rank with Washington, Lincoln, FDR, Reagan: presidents who made a profound difference

So let’s take stock.

No,it is not impossible. The article falls flat in vision.
Bush has begun the process of overthrowing "Foggy Bottom" (aka State Dept). He has begun overthrowing the "in-house Intelligensia" (aka CIA analysts).

He began the process of taking back Executive Control over Executive Agencies. This is an enormous milestone.

He has begun the process of bringing democracy to Muslim countries. The Domino Theory is working in REVERSE!

If Bush succeeds, Huntington's (Clash of Civilizations) fears may not be so dramatic. They will have been muted because of Bush's vision. It's the Vision thing...

The headline is just a wee bit suggestive. And folks here think the daily dose is racey. ;)

This President does not have the ego of a 'global ambulance chaser' that Clinton did. President Bush was headed for the challenge of domestic reform (education, health care, taxes, etc.) before 9/11 and I am certain will do as spectacular a job with those issues as he is doing with foreign policy. However, first things first. And the President, thankfully, is a man who comprehends that and addresses what matters in a way that is effective. No waffling there.

Who was it who said that 'Adversity introduces a man to himself'? Anyway, President Bush stepped up to the plate and did so like a man and not like a Clinton type 'glory hunter' with a self conscious and ignoble personal agenda. President Bush is truly a great leader because, I think, he is incapable of being any other kind of a leader. Nothing that man does is done by halves, grudgingly or in bad faith. Lucky us!
