I actually got a Tax Cut! (I think this is a Vanity)

Posted on 01/07/2005 6:53:33 PM PST by weeke

Be gentle, this is my first post. If I do something wrong, please be constructive in your criticism. Here goes.

The other night I was a little bored so I went to the IRS website and did a little research. I pulled up the 1040ez form and filled it out so I would have an idea of what I owe this year: about $3200. (I will actually do my taxes on the 1040a after I get my w4 and 1099r). Then out of curiousity, I found the 1040ez from 1999 and proceeded to input my 2004 earnings information in just to compare. WOW!! I would have paid about $3700!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't all the Lieberals and MSM say the tax cuts were only for the rich and for the Preseident's friends? How is it possible that little 'o me got a $500 tax break, a 13.5% cut? I don't consider myself rich (my salary is in the low 30's) and I'm pretty sure the President and I have never met.

The way I see it (and according to what is constantly said by the MSM), there are only three possibilities to explain this tax cut. One, not being a single parent making minimum wage automatically makes me rich. Two, President Bush and I are buddies! Or most likely, third, I've been drinking too much and I did my taxes wrong.....

The main reason I went even looking for the 1040 from 1999 was to get some real world numbers to be able to throw at a Lieberal co-worker.

I had the opportunity to use the numbers today at lunch. Needless to say, she took the typical Lieberal tactic when confronted with facts: she tried to attack me personally by saying either I did the math wrong or was lying. When I pointed out her tactic (and explained to the rest of the group that I had a degree in mathematics) everyone basically dismissed her (some even outright laughed at her). She then decided her lunch was over and left. It was almost sad. I suppose now I probably shouldn't ask her out....(too bad, she's kinda cute).

TOPICS: Miscellaneous
KEYWORDS: taxes
I did a search before posting this thread and couldn't find anything like it. But if you all talked about this a few years ago when the tax cuts went through, feel free to yank it. Otherwise, I was just wondering if anyone else has taken the time to fill out tax forms from the past just to compare.

Her loss. You're $500 richer! LOL.

"I don't consider myself rich (my salary is in the low 30's)"

Same here. Those who say that you must earn six-figures in order to benefit from Bush's tax cuts are misguided.

I got creamed in the stock market long before the 2000 election. Problem was that I had 50% of my portfolio in JDS Uniphase. I took a 90% loss on that company/stock alone.

I'm trying to recover, but am not sure what stocks look promising over the next 12 to 24 months. Ironically, my boss, an Investor Relations VP at a Fortune 500 company, was touting JDSU in early 2000 and I jumped in, without conducting much self-research.

I fully accept personal responsibility for my own miserable mistakes. I made the decisions; my boss merely provided advice.

Just read the Fairtax plan. Sounds like a great idea but I have two questions. First, does this mean corporations pay no federal taxes? And B, it talks about a monthly rebate, that sounds like it would be a huge undertaking. Don't get me wrong, I'm willing to try anything to replace this crap-hole mess we've got now...

I actually have a degree in Physics. I found out a few years later when I was looking at my transcripts that they awarded my a co-major in Mathematics. The univeristy doesn't award two degrees if they are both earned in the same college. (I found out that just about everyone who majors in Physics usually gets a co-major in math due to the number of math credits we pick up).
BTW I graduated from Creighton University in Omaha back in 1994.
I would love to double my salary but I really don't want to leave Nebraska and I actually really enjoy my job!

Yes, the Fairtax totally repeals the personal, corporate, payroll and estate taxes.

The monthly rebate exists so that noone would pay tax on the necessities of life. By the way, everyone gets the rebate, not just the poor. It makes the tax progressive. The monthly rebate process would be nothing compared to filing a tax return annually. You would just send in a postcard annually which lists the persons in your household and their social security number. When you have another baby you just send in another form. The social security administration would send a check on the first of each month to the family, or direct deposit, just like they do now for millions of social security recipients. The mechanism are basically already in place.
