British Bombers: The Most Outrageous Iraq War Story Since Abu Ghraib
Sploid ^

The last remaining public justification for the U.S./U.K. occupation of Iraq is terrorism: The foreign forces cannot leave until Iraq is somewhat peaceful and the terrorists have been defeated.

That threadbare reasoning was ripped apart on Monday as the world -- other than the United States, where broadcast media avoided the story -- was shown two agents provocateurs employed by the British government. Their exact mission will never be proven. The evidence, however, is damning.

The two commandoes -- alternately identified as members of Britian's notorious SAS or a newer offshoot, the SRR -- were driving around a demonstration in Basra when their suspicious behavior attracted the attention of Basra police.

The Scotsman now reports that the men are members of the SRR, or Special Reconnaissance Regiment. The insignia shows a Greek helmet with a sword thrust through the mouth and up through the back of the skull.

The police attempted to stop the men, who were disguised as Arabs in local garb over their T-shirts and trousers. The men wore black-hair wigs and, according to some reports, typical headresses.

Hmmm. Interesting story. No mention of the other reports that the two Brits were to be (or had been) turned over, by the IDF, to one of the local militias for "interrogation" and that's when their comrades rode to the rescue.

Very curious, that.

Oh really? Seems to me the exact mission was pretty well described in The Scotsman yesterday, the very same article used as a source in this "Sploid" report:

Defence sources have told The Scotsman that the soldiers were part of an undercover special forces detachment set up this year to try to "bridge the intelligence void" in Basra. The detachment draws on special forces' experience in Northern Ireland and Aden, where British troops went "deep" undercover in local communities to try to break the code of silence against foreign forces.

The troops are under the jurisdiction of the Special Reconnaissance Regiment that was formed last year by the then defence secretary, Geoff Hoon, to gather so-called human intelligence during counter-terrorist missions.

So will Sploid have us believe that British soldiers are staging bombings to make it appear that Iraq is unstable when it is not? Will Sploid have us believe that the Brits are killing NY Times reporters?

Where did you find this crap?

From what I can gather Sploid is nothing more than a British tabloid. (Bush-bash, UFO's, dirty language, outright lies). See for yourself.

Why are you posting terrorist propaganda without a barf alert?

Check out the sources on this story (whose only quotes come from an "Socialist Worker" interview with a top aide of Moqtada al-Sadr!):
