LETS GO AFTER THOSE THAT HIRE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS
3/28/06 | BOB HARAN

Posted on 03/29/2006 1:59:58 AM PST by Bob Haran

By Bob Haran; The recent marches in opposition to Rep. James Sensenbrener’s bill, H.R. 4437, that would make it a felony to be in the country illegally, has raised a question in my mind.

Why don't we make the people responsible for causing people to enter our country illegally, felons? Congress should amend H.R. 4437 and instead of making it a felony to be in the country illegally, make it a felony to illegally hire someone in the country illegally. To make people who are for the most part, law abiding, into felons, is ludicrous. Why does our government refuse to go after the real law breakers, the employers that illegally hire and profit from using undocumented workers?

Let's enforce all our immigration laws.

Producers and merchants unwilling to participate in capitalism in this country should be driven from business as soon as possible.

Bears repeating. In bold.

Producers and merchants unwilling to participate in capitalism in this country should be driven from business as soon as possible. This is not France!

Our work ethic in this country is approaching Frances. This is not an issue of price as much as it is an issue of getting the job done. The vast majority of businesses would happily pay a fair price to get a job done. Believe it or not, there is not a huge work force out there justing waiting to do a hard job for a fair wage.

I honestly do not mean to introduce a new topic, confuse the issue on this one, OR irritate any of my fellow conservatives on this immigration issue -- but there is this...

The War on Illegals has no more chance of success than the War On Drugs, and for exactly the same two reasons.
[1] The suppliers {illegals} have lots of reason to continue.
[2] The users {employers} have lots of reason to continue.

Add to that the fact that for all the current disturbance and emotional upheaval, it really is NOT among the biggest problems the country faces.

They are depressing the wage rate. That $10 to $20 per hour would be higher.

So what do we need to pay to get fruit picked, tables bused, drywall hung? $30 per hour? That'w what we need is a bunch of people busing tables for $60K per year to meet your idea of fair pricing.

A fair wage is the one that gets the workers to come to the job site.

Sometimes that's going to mean you have to pay more than you expected.

At the moment I want to bust a hole in my cement floor to add a drain for a new tub. This is going to cost me more than I wish to pay, but if I want the tub I will have to pay the price.

If I wrote to my Congress-critter and explained that the cost of a new drain is too high so I need to bring in a crew of Mexicans, he'd laugh his a$$ off unless, of course, I offered him a large campaign donation.

It's time to quit bribing these guys and impose Capitalism on the economy.

No, we need to kick healthy Americans off of welfare. It's not that they won't work for the low wages that Mexicans will work for it's that they don't have to!

A "fair price" is really not something the government should be guaranteeing to any producer or merchant. Using language from the good old days, that's "mercantilism", not "capitalism".

Nothing more pitiful in my eyes than a rich guy who whines night and day that he needs the privilege of violating the law so that he can make a profit.

That's the problem ~ this violating of the law ~ and the destruction of the poor ~ if a fair wage is $60 K per year for a waiter, then you might find cafeteria style service back in style eh?

It is no more fair for you to get a business subsidy for breaking the law than it is for me to shop for new furniture and TVs by breaking into your house!

Americans that are too proud to do the work illegals are doing are not too proud to accept tax payer handouts as if they are entitled to them.

So what?! ~ Let's open this economy up to Americans and see what happens when wages rise to their natural level.

That's not necessarry. If the tax payers stopped paying for peoples rent, food and other expenses they would have to do this work at the lower wages.

Drive down to Florida sometime. There are hundreds of roofs sitting there that can't get done. Florida is pretty tough with their construction regulation and workers must be licenced or employees of a licenced contractor. People are will to pay upto 10 times what is being paid elsewhere in the country, but there simply are not enough people willing to do the work. Forida tough regulation makes it tough for illegals and even legal immigrants to do roof work because they watch it so closely. It is not an issue of price.

jobs dry up for the illegals and they'll move somewhere else

Unfortunately, I think they will still come--then apply for welfare. No one will have to gets to ask 'em for ID, so they'll get it.

Interestingly enough, if folks get jobs they get off welfare. Once off, the taxpayers no longer fund their rent and so forth.

I suggest that it's better to go to the root of the problem ~ the labor market ~ than to whine about the welfare system.

..companies would be firing illegals faster than they hired them.

We really need some type of foolproof identification system, whether it be a social security card or some other type of proof of American citizenship.

I understand that this would strike many libertarian types as evil, but I see no other way in which we can effectively go after employers, most of whom can easily be fooled by today's high quality identification fakes.

The market will fill the voids. Nodoby needs to resort to breaking the law, under ANY circumstances.

I am building a house right now. If an illegal comes on my property, I'm telling the contractor to remove him. So far, we have the walls framed, and not a single illegal has been here yet. Yep, only Americans are building my house.

I also own a business. I could hire Mexicans at a fraction of what I pay my American employees, but I refuse to. Guess what- we're doing fine, and God blesses us with excellent contracts.

To hear people like you talk, it's as if Americans aren't capable of doing this. PLease!

Even beyond the issue of work ethic, the real problem is demographics. People are having fewer and fewer kids. Meanwhile the population is getting better educated and aging. This is not an issue of a bunch of able bodies not wanting to do work. The real issue is that there are no able bodies. Illegal immigration is the quick fix to our demographics problem. There are not enough willing and able bodies to do the hard jobs that need to be done, at ANY price. If illegal immigrant left this country, there would be millions of jobs that could not get down no matter how much anybody would pay.
