As a matter of fact, one of the most commonly agreed upon planks of the Republican Party Platform has to do with smaller government and lower spending.

So what does that tell you? It tells me that it takes a lot of money and manpower to run a welfare state, and the party out of power is going to bash the party that's in power over the head with it.
