When I went to public schools,(in the 70's) I'd say about half of us were showing ADHD symptoms. The reason was that they teach to the lowest common denominator so the faster kids are done and bored.

It used to make me so mad that they made the extremely poor readers read out loud. I never understood the purpose of that; was it to shame them into being better readers? Then while someone was stumbling over some word, everyone else had read the passage.
