Why do we, as a country, continue to give foreign aid when we are so in debt?

Simple, because of who we are. We are a nation of people who drop everything to climb mountains looking for a lost boy scout, a people who raise the type of heroes that charge into certain death because they know they can trade their life for a perfect stranger’s. We are a nation of people who will charge a hi-jacked cockpit and force the plane into the ground rather than allow it to be used as a weapon. We stay glued to the TV hoping and praying for people we do not know or will never meet to emerge from a collapsed mine. We are a nation who weeps for an abandoned baby we do not know and for a fallen soldier, police officer or fire fighter. In short, we are a nation of good people who values life above anything and are pained to see anyone suffer.
