As an artist, Bruce is awesome. But politics is a matter of privacy. Better left offstage when performing.

Same thing about John Mellencamp. I think they thought they were the new Woodie Guthrie. "Gonna show the world that we have downtrodden so they'll get help!" kind of thing.

Trouble is Guthrie never got rich and never had to battle the dichotomy of being rich while singing about the poor.

Springsteen had some really good songs like "Downbound Train" and "Brilliant Disguise". They showed a very emotional side to him.

I haven't listened to any of his new stuff for years. Not because of politics but his message, like that of Mellencamp's, got old.

I enjoyed his Born In The USA album, even though it was a kick in the groin to America. The song - Born In The USA - really struck home with me. I first got out of the Navy in 1980 and was living in San Diego. The lyrics about trying to find a job was what I was going through at that time. The Employment Office in SDGO seemed more interested in not finding you work. The VA man at the office was the same. Eventually, I moved back to Maryland, worked in construction for awhile and then went back in the Navy.

All that said, I always thought Springsteen was over-rated. When he first appeared on the scene in the 70's, they labeled him the next Presley. I laughed then and I laugh at it now. I never really liked him even before I knew his politics. Maybe it's that Jersey thing - I don't really like most of the Jersey artists. I like Texas rock and the Detroit sound. Springsteen an artist - don't make me laugh. Frank Zappa - that's an artist, continually pushing the boundries of his music. Springsteen is just another who played the game to get to where he is today.

Luckily for me, I don’t care what Bruce’s politics are because I think he is a talentless assclown. It’s not like I would ever have to decide between his music and his political philosophy. Both suck. (Just my opinion)

Brilliant summary of a good argument. Cheers.

The Nuge is always a pleasure to listen to, and he has certainly driven your Second Amendment rights well.

When I want to hear a guy who sounds like he is singing while he is pinching a loaf on the toilet I turn on Springsteen. Which is never.

Let me start out by saying this.

I love all kinds of music with alternative rock being my favorite.

I like Three Days Grace. I like Led Zeppelin.

I like Steve Vai. I love Frank Marino.

I like Christian hymns. I like the masters like Mozart and Chopin and Vivaldi.

I like chamber music. I love violin solos.

I can't stand Bruce Springstine.

His voice is horrible. His guitar playing mediocre.

His immoral politics and lifestyle just cap it off.

I don’t like filthy rich celebrities who whine and complain about how bad it is here in America and how tough it is to make a living. I see them as hypocrites.

Download his music thru LimeWire, BearShare, etc.

That way you can enjoy his music w/o making him any richer.

BTW, he DID lose it. Born to Run, Jugleland, etc is real music.

Born in the USA is not.

Shouldn’t matter what we think. You do what you think. I will too.

There are some Springsteen tunes I really like, and some just suck (IMHO).

Seems that there’s a continuum - most of the old stuff I like with few exceptions running towards now where most I don’t like with few exceptions.

Thunder Road is my all-time favorite. It was something of an anthem for those of us who grew up in smallish towns and longed to break free into the wider world.

Of course, now that I’m older, I’m finding myself listening to a lot of Country, and a lot of reason is it extolls the virtues of living in those exact places a lot of us couldn’t wait to leave.

I never noticed that before. It could be seen that he's taking a leak on the flag but any guy will tell you it's best not to lean when you're draining the lizard. That said and knowing this toad's politics, it wouldnt surprise me to know the impression of him p!ssing on the flag was a subtle intent.

At one time after the war, I was Apolitical. I liked Bruce as well as Jackson Brown and regarded them as pop heroes.

But with time, as they came out against President Reagan, etc... I began to despise them. I now refuse to even listen to their music because it reminds me of their betrayal of the country that gave them that special right in the first place. They are both Marxists.

The Boss took a hard left in Nebraska, and has never been heard from since. He was great when he stuck to writing within his own area of knowledge: chicks and cars.

Without a doubt the best rock & Roll show I’ve ever seen was The Boss from the floor of the Brendan Byrne Arena at the start of the Born in the U.S.A tour. Today, you couldn’t give me tickets to see him.

I passed him on a sidewalk in Red Bank, NJ one night a few years ago. I never knew how small he was! The guy can’t be more than 5’7” or 5’8” and about 140 pounds.

The Boss was a bit before my own generation, so I have other favorites. I like some of his music, but it can be a bit one-dimensional (sorry, I feel the same way about Dylan too). As far as politics goes - Bruce can stuff his anti-Bush stuff where the sun don’t shine.

Picking a movie or album presently has become very challenging for me. I for one can’t separate their words from the movie. The liberal anti-American politics of so many of these so called artists have absolutely ruined more than one movie that I tried to watch. I was going to watch the last Bourne movie and honestly I couldn’t get past the chase scenes.
