Greetings from the Land of Enchantment. My name is Michael. I joined FreeRepublic in Nov 1998. At the time I was searching for a true conservative outlet and source for the truth. I have found many kindred spirits here and hope to see some of you. I am a firm believer in the Constitution and what this great land called America stands for.

My family history can be traced back to the early 1800's, before this was a territory of the US. My family has fought in every war since then as US military and a couple of expeditions.

My wife is a Gulf War vet, serving two tours on the USS Acadia in a support ship role and one of the first women allowed aboard ships. She and I are both staunch Republicans who believe that the Democratic Party will sell everything we have to create a socialist structure that cannot survive.

I have testified before the New Mexico State Legislature on a variety of subjects ranging from Concealed Carry to education and teacher salaries. I will continue to do so until true change results. My favorite part of FreeRepublic is the Photo Captions. I feel a little humor in a dreary time can help them through the days.

I carry, because I can.

I carry, because the police are not liable for my safety, I am.

I carry, because there are people in this world who have no remorse for taking life from others.

I carry, because I am a valuable contributor to society and not a victim to be slaughtered like sheep.

I carry because I am trained and willing to defend others.

Whether that happens is not dependent on me, but the resolution and safety of others, should it happen, may rest with me.

Here are some of my favorite things.

Years ago I competed in IPSC competition, I was pretty good, but a personal event changed my views on gun ownership from 'gaming' to personal defense, and since then I have been a proponent of one true value.

All women should learn to shoot and carry a firearm for protection.

I teach people how to shoot, how to defend themselves, and most importantly, why they need to do so.

I do not promote one type or brand of firearm for individuals, but try to find what works for them. After all, I prefer a .45, but it is impractical for a 70-yr-old to try to carry one. I do carry other calibers and whatever it is I carry depends mostly on the weather.
