Not sure he is hiding his legs. I see both of them, and it seems he is wearing cowboy boots type shoes. He looks awkward because he is leaning in to get his package. I don’t see a cane in that picture.
When was the accident?
Is this photo around the same time of the photo with Obama Sr and Jr in the airport? In that photo, I didn’t see Obama Sr. having a cane then.

He is positioning his right leg stiffly in the picture and yes he had a car accident in 1971 prior to his visit to HI. That is also the same time when the airport picture was taken so I don’t know where the cane was at that time unless he set it to one side and leaned into those with whom he had his picture taken. The fact that he had been in an accident is mentioned in Jr’s fairytale when Jr mentions that his father had yellow eyes after a recent bout of malaria and was relying on a cane after he had been in a car accident.(pg 37-39) While Sr was in the hospital after that accident, Ruth was visiting with him when Kezia came to visit and according to Kezia that was when she discovered that Sr and Ruth were married.
