Newt loves to think “outside the box” and be the creative tactician-Field General.

The post we are discussing is not the place for those characteristics. The original approaches we need from the rising leadership that morphs to candidates, not from an RNC chair telling them what to think.

This post calls for the fellow that can get people working together through leverage and application of personal warmth and personality. Newt’s time as Speaker showed that was not his forte.

Perfect post for a Romney type.

Great idea. The psycho Howard Dean will go down as one of the most successful DNC Chairs in history and he doesn’t have half the talent and brains Newt does. This should be a no-brainer.

He will attract the right people to the party.

I am for this.

Newt is damaged goods and cannot get elected, but he would be a fine behind-the-scenese leader with great conservative tendancies.

Newt Considers a Run for RNC Chairman

------------------------------------------------------------

Run, Newt, run! The party chairman should be an articulate visionary. Newt is exactly that. The personal baggage that made him un-electable for POTUS will not matter in an RNC chair role.

I think he could be effective in the necessary remodel of the Republican party, and could help in rebuilding the fundraising base.

Is there anyway we can stop making Newt out to be something he isn’t anymore. I am a younger conservative. 28. The first letter I ever wrote to anyone was to R.R. That being said I am sick and tired of everyone putting up these false heroes. Newt did a lot of good in 94, but his time is up. Look how he acted when asked about running this time. He wanted us to beg for him to come save the party. I for one say No Thanks. It is time to bring new faces to the forefront of the gop.

How about no Newt and no Rove. They both have sold out and want to be on TV telling us what wrong with the party. If they cared they would have already jumped in to fix the problems.

Both can be advisor's but not Over the RNC.

We need somebody at the RNC like the Dems Rahm with a take no prisoner attitude.

Not sure we got one.

But among the current crop of politicians in America, the closest to Winston Churchill is clearly Newt Gingrich. ... Winston Churchill was not utilized during the years of appeasement in Great Britain-neither one was a team player, both were brilliant, and both had a pyrotechnic ability to piss people off.

I posted something similar a few months ago. Newt might be very good as RNC head. I hope he is never President, because as you say, he Churchillian in both his virtues, and his flaws.

It took WWII, and Hitler's early victories, for Parliament to turn to Churchill, who shortly before had been dismissed as an aging, mentally unstable, alcholic, warmongering, blowhard. And that was by his own party. Labour thought even less of him.

While I would welcome his as RNC Chair, I hope we never face a crisis so grave that Newt's flaws won't keep him out of the White House.

Of course, Newt's chances of being President, while still slim, went up considerably this week.

I don't want to throw water on the fire but I would like to hear more about Newt's current views. He has strayed off the reservation a few times. One was when he went palsy with Nancy Pelosi. If he has remained a true conservative I'm all for it.

well i just don’t understand you people on this here thread...srsly. newt -expletive deleted- gingrich ?! for real? to head the RNC ?

since obama won it almost seems like all of Free Republic is hitting the hippy lettuce...vanities like cockroaches and now newt gingrich is going to save you ?

THE DAY OF THE 50+ OVERWEIGHT CAUCASIAN CAREER POLITICIAN IS OVER. DONE. FINISHED.

Newt is a political whore, as some have rightly pointed out re: Pelosi/Global Warming, but even if he wasn’t and still had some integrity after all that time in Washington, his day is simply done. it doesn’t matter how smart he might be.

America 2008 = IDENTITY POLITICS

hell even McCain understands this (hence Palin) and his whole campaign was one long concession speech.

seriously...some of you just astound me...

‘what the Republican Party needs is more old overweight white guys to get our message out’

i’d rather someone (seemingly) honest and young like Joe The Plumber took over.

wow this whole thread is just frustrating.

Mr. Hunter has impressive credentials—so much so, that I believe he’d make a fine SecDef. T’were that the case...John Bolton would make a fine Secretary of State.

Good choices!

I think Newt would be an excellent choice. He knows how to articulate key strategies needed to win an election. He doesn’t get bogged down in minutia.

I agree with you. No Newt or Rove, at least not at the forefront of the party, in the public eye. We need new blood. I don't mean young necessarily, just a newer name. Republicans seem to keep going back to the Bryant Gumbels in our party.

And someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Newt stab us in the back during Clinton's impeachment? I'd love to know if I'm remembering that wrong.

Newt's an ideas guy, not a field general. I have no concerns over his doing an excellent job for us again.

Now, if he wanted to return to Congress or run for President, I'd be on the front line saying: NO!!!!
