A PETITION
for
The Impeachment of Senator Barack Obama
TO THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES

...snip....

Whereas: Senator Barack Obama has maintained regular contact
with known criminals such as Antoin (Tony) Rezko and other
criminal elements in Chicago and Illinois. Mr. Obama has
conducted business with these criminals and received campaign
donations from them. Mr. Obama was compelled to return an estimated $250,000 in
donations related to Tony Rezko.

...SNIP...

Whereas: Senator Barack Obama has engaged in unscrupulous business
practices, in particular with Mr. Robert Blackwell. Mr. Obama
received an $ 8,000 per month “legal retainer” from Mr. Blackwell
for a total of $112,000 and reported the income through his law firm
in a manner not unlike money laundering. Obama, along with Obama
campaign manager Dan Shomon, procured $ 320,000 in state grants
for Blackwell’s company Killerspin. Blackwell companies contributed
over $ 32,000 to the Obama campaign in 2007.

Whereas: Senator Barack Obama used the office of IL Senator to
facilitate the vote rigging in Chicago as chairman of the Illinois Senate
Health and Human Services Committee. Mr. Obama pushed legislation in Senate Bill
1332 to reduce the number of members of the Health Facilities Planning Board
from 15 to 9. Mr. Obama did conspire with Stuart Levine, Tony Rezko and
Rod Blogojevich to rig the committee and was rewarded with campaign
contributions. The new members appointed included 3 doctors who contributed to
Mr. Obama. On April 21, 2004, Stuart Levine explicitly advised Dr. Robert Weinstein,
who is now indicted, of Tony Rezko’s role in manipulating the Planning Board’s vote.

Numerous conversations related to the extortion were captured on the court-authorized wiretaps on Levine’s phones. In particular, on a recorded May 1, 2004
conversation, Levine spoke with Dr. Robert Weinstein, a co-schemer in Levine’s criminal activities.

During the call, Levine told Weinstein about his more recent meeting with Rezko and Kelly. Levine described how Rezko said that Rosenberg would “have a choice. . . . you
can raise a million and a half dollars for the fund raiser in June [for ROD BLAGOJEVICH]

. . . or you can work out somethin’ with [a consultant to pay a finder’s fee].”

During other conversations, Levine and Cellini discussed Rosenberg’s reaction to learning that Rezko and
Kelly were stalling Capri’s $220 million allocation and that if Rosenberg did not want to deal with Rezko in terms of paying money, then Rosenberg could walk away from the $220 million allocation.

Judicial Watch has docs on Obama’s contact with Blago
judicial watch ^

Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that it obtained documents from the office of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich as result of an Illinois Freedom of Information Act lawsuit related to federal investigations of Blagojevich, who was removed from office in January for attempting to “sell” President Obama’s Senate seat, among other charges.

The documents include federal subpoenas issued to Governor Blagojevich’s office related to a number of individuals connected to President Obama and the national Democratic party, including:

— Valerie Jarrett: Once labeled “the other side of Barack Obama’s brain” by CBS news, Jarrett remains a close advisor to President Obama. Obama recently tapped Jarrett to chair his newly formed White House Council on Women and Girls. Jarrett was widely rumored to be a candidate to take over Obama’s senate seat.

— David Axelrod: Axelrod, Obama’s top campaign strategist, now serves as a senior White House advisor. During the campaign, when asked about the search for a replacement for Obama’s Senate seat, Axelrod told Fox News Chicago, “I know [Obama has] talked to the governor and there are a whole range of names, many of which have surfaced, and I think he has a fondness for a lot of them.” He later retracted the statement.

— David Wilhelm: Wilhelm, a former Chairman of the Democratic National Committee and campaign strategist for Bill Clinton, served as an informal advisor to the Obama campaign. He was also a superdelegate to the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

— J.B. Pritzker: Obama named Mr. Pritzker’s wife, Penny, to serve on his recently formed 15-member Economic Recovery Advisory Board. Penny Pritzker previously served as the Obama campaign’s National Finance Chair.

Judicial Watch filed its original Freedom of Information Act request on November 27, 2006. Blagojevich’s office claimed the subpoenas were exempt from disclosure. Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit on January 16, 2007, in the Cook County Illinois Circuit Court. Governor Pat Quinn’s office finally released the grand jury subpoenas on March 4, 2009.

The grand jury subpoena requesting documents on Jarrett, Axelrod and Pritzker is dated December 8, 2008. The grand jury subpoena that concerns David Wilhelm is dated April 13, 2007.

“We now have confirmation that top Obama White House officials are caught up in a federal grand jury investigation,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “It would be helpful if President Obama kept his promises of transparency and finally released all documents related to this scandal.”

In January 2009, Judicial Watch obtained documents specifically regarding Blagojevich’s contacts with President Obama and his transition team.

The documents include a December 3, 2008, letter from Barack Obama following a meeting with Blagojevich as well as a November 17, 2008, letter signed by former Presidential Transition Team co-chairs Valerie Jarrett and John Podesta providing Blagojevich with a list of transition team contacts.

Judicial Watch Litigation Director Paul Orfanedes also testified to the 21-member Special Investigative Committee that recommended Blagojevich’s impeachment to the Illinois House of Representatives

Reid, Durbin Answer Questions About Burris
WashPost ^ | 3-19-09

In an unusual step, the Senate’s top leaders were interviewed yesterday by the chamber’s ethics committee in its ongoing investigation of Sen. Roland W. Burris’s campaign to win appointment to the seat vacated by President Obama.

Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) and Majority Whip Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.) met with the committee, in separate 30-minute discussions, to recount their interactions with Burris (D) during his effort to be seated after he was appointed by then-Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D).

Neither Reid nor Durbin is accused of wrongdoing, but their testimony could prove critical to discerning the motive behind Burris’s alleged misstatements before a state legislative committee in Illinois that conducted the Blagojevich impeachment inquiry.

While Reid declined to comment on the substance of the interview with the ethics committee, Durbin said he also appeared last week before an Illinois prosecutor investigating whether Burris told the truth that he had no contact with Blagojevich or his advisers in relation to political fundraising requests before he was appointed.

Burris has denied any wrongdoing and has resisted all calls for his resignation.

Daley kin lawyer up - CONTRACT PROBE | Son, nephew hire criminal defense attorney

From:
Chicago Sun Times ^ | 3-27-09 | Tim Novak, Fran Spielman
VIA:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2217283/posts

Mayor Daley’s son and nephew have hired a criminal defense attorney to represent them in the ongoing investigation of their investment in a sewer-cleaning company that won millions of dollars in no-bid contract extensions from City Hall.

Charles Sklarsky, a former federal prosecutor now with the law firm of Jenner & Block, confirmed Thursday he is representing Patrick Daley and his cousin Robert Vanecko.

Sklarsky wouldn’t discuss the investigation, which the city’s inspector general and federal authorities began in December 2007.

That was days after the Chicago Sun-Times disclosed that Daley’s son and nephew had held a hidden ownership stake in Municipal Sewer Services and that the company saw its city business — inspecting and cleaning sewers — soar during the time they were owners.

Patrick Daley and Vanecko invested $65,000 in the company in 2003, but Municipal didn’t disclose their interest on documents it filed with City Hall. At the time, a city ordinance required such disclosure by city contractors. Daley and Vanecko have said they cashed out in late 2004. That was as the Hired Truck scandal prompted reforms at City Hall.

Pension funds may not cooperate on subpoena

Trustees for at least two city pension funds are considering stonewalling Chicago’s inspector general over a subpoena for records involving their investments with a company co-owned by one of Mayor Daley’s nephews.

The funds invested millions of dollars in DV Urban Realty Partners, founded by Daley nephew Robert Vanecko and Allison Davis, a mayoral supporter whose law firm once employed Barack Obama.

Follow the Money: Obama-Rezko-Davis: Political favors—no, well, maybe one two (Updated)

*snip*

Tim Novak wrote April 23, 2007, in the Chicago Sun-Times that in 1993 Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) started working at Allison S. Davis’s “small Chicago law firm”. In 1998, Davis left the firm to invest in indicted political fixer Antoin ‘Tony’ Rezko’s “final government-subsidized, low-income housing project” and the deal was “handled by Davis’ former law firm.”

9/17/08 0 calls Emil Jones about ethics bill
9/19/08 Blago calls the move a Republican trap, and brings up Rezko’s name in a presser. “I have a theory on what happened in the Rezko situation was a system, you know, sucked him in and then some lines were crossed and then that person found himself actually violating some of the rules,” Blagojevich said.
10/07/08 Blago tells Rezko to tell the truth, the day after federal prosecutors indicated that the convicted fund-raiser might be cooperating with them. Rezko sentencing subsequently delayed.
10/12/08 Rezko starts talking.
10/17/08 Blago sends 0 message via Sun-Times’ Sneed, “Who will it be?”
10/21/08 Order was signed authorizing a 30-day interception of oral communications at Friends of Blago, Blago’s personal office and the conference room and that it was begun on Oct. 22.
??? Feds ask Trib to hold the presses due to wire taps.

10/31/08 “I just don’t want to jinx him and I don’t like the karma of me thinking that far ahead,” Blagojevich said of Obama ‘s prospects in Tuesday’s election. The governor added, “We have had some discussions about a process which we’ll share ... if all goes well.”
Businessmen with ties to both Illinois Blago and JJJ discussed raising $1 million for 0’s seat. Blago also attended the meeting, which was sponsored by Nayak, an Oak Brook businessman.
11/01/08 Source said that contact between the Obama camp and the governor’s administration regarding the Senate seat began the Saturday before the Nov. 4 election, when Emanuel made a call to the cell phone of Harris. The conversation took place around the same time press reports surfaced about Emanuel being approached about taking the high-level White House post should Obama win. Emanuel delivered a list of candidates who would be “acceptable” to Obama, the source said. * Blagojevich speaks with Harris and with Deputy Governor A
* They discuss potential private foundations heavily dependent on federal aid, as this would place it under the influence of Obama
Conversation 8:

* Blagojevich voices demands for something for the seat, and he reiterates an intention to appoint himself to the seat

??? AFTER being name chief of staff, Rahm has multiple conversations with Blago, giving him a list of names acceptable to 0.
??? Schakowsky also spoke of a conversation she had with Emanuel shortly after he was named chief of staff. Conversation 11:

* Blagojevich, Advisor B and Harris then discuss the possibility of a three way deal involving Blagojevich, Obama and “Change to Win,” an organization tied to SEIU (Service Employees International Union)
* Harris mentions how such a deal would conceal a quid pro quo
* Advisor B, who is in DC, is pleased with the notion of a three way deal, and he states that Obama should be leveraged with this deal, as it is better than Madigan as Senator and Blagojevich continuing as Governor
11/08/08 Conversation 12:
* Blagojevich and Harris speak
* Discussed is the potential of a financial benefit for Blagojevich’s wife, who he believes can work in New York or DC with her Series 7 license
* An interim position at Change to Win for Blagojevich’s wife is also discussed
11/10/08 Marathon conference call, more than two hours, between “various Washington, D.C., based advisers,” Blago, his wife, his general counsel, an unnamed adviser, and John Harris, regarding “what (Blago) can get from the President-elect for the Senate seat.” Blago believed the candidate was Jarrett.
7:56 PM ET, CNN reported that “two Democratic sources close to President-elect Barack Obama tell CNN that top adviser Valerie Jarrett will not be appointed to replace him in the U.S. Senate.”
Conversation 13:
* Blagojevich, his wife, Harris, Governor General Counsel and various Washington, DC, advisors, including Advisor B, speak on a conference call
* Blagojevich mentions his connections in Obama’s teams, and he asks how that can be parlayed into financial and political benefits for him and his wife
* Blagojevich mentions how he can assume the Senate seat in order to avoid impeachment in Illinois, and he agrees that Obama will not appoint him to a Cabinet position, as he is too controversial
* Blagojevich asks what he can obtain for the Senate seat, and he mentions that Governor General Counsel believes Blagojevich can be appointed to a private sector Board in exchange for appointing Jarrett to the Senate, but it would have to be a Board not directly connected to Obama
* Blagojevich’s wife also mentions her desire to be appointed to a Board, and Blagojevich mentions his wife’s experience and Series 7 license
* Blagojevich mentions that he does not want to be Governor anymore
* Blagojevich complains that the advisors on the phone are telling him that he must “suck it up” for another two years
* Blagojevich complains that he will receive nothing in return for appointing Jarrett, and he threatens to appoint Senate Candidate 4, one of the three Deputy Governors of Illinois, in retaliation
* Blagojevich mentions how his wife is more qualified to sit on corporate boards than a “specifically named individual,” who is most probably Michelle Obama
* Harris and Blagojevich remind advisors of the problem of Blagojevich’s financial security, and Blagojevich indicates that without something in return he will not appoint Jarrett
* Harris broaches the three way deal with Obama, Blagojevich and the SEIU involving “Change to Win;” such a deal will occur in two years
* A Blagojevich advisor admonishes Blagojevich to be “leery” of promises for events to occur to two years from now
* Blagojevich then discusses other manners whereby he can earn money
Conversation 14:
* Blagojevich and Advisor A discuss the open Senate seat
* Blagojevich asks if Obama could appoint his wife to a Board
* If Obama cannot or will not appoint Blagojevich’s wife to a corporate Board, then Blagojevich will appoint Jesse Jackson, Jr. to the Senate seat
Conversation 15:
* Blagojevich and Advisor A discuss the open Senate seat again
* Blagojevich asks Advisor A to leak to the Chicago Sun-Times that he is seriously considering Jesse Jackson, Jr., for the open Senate seat
* Blagojevich considers this to be another threat to the Obama campaign, who still desires Jarrett
* It is clear that Blagojevich has not intention of selection Jackson; he simply hopes to apply pressure to the Obama campaign
11/11/08 Conversation: 16
* Blagojevich and John Harris discuss the open Senate seat
* Blagojevich suggests the creations of a 501(c)(4) he could run that would be funded by Warren Buffett or other wealthy Obama allies
* Blagojevich also mentions that he could appoint Senate Candidate 4, Illinois Deputy Governor Louanner Peters, who will vacate it if Blagojevich is impeached and in need of a political office
* Blagojevich knows Obama will not offer him what he wants in exchange for appointing Jarrett
Conversation 17:
* Blagojevich and Advisor A discuss the open Senate seat
* Advisor A mentions how he is attempting to leak the story about Jesse Jackson, Jr., to the Chicago Sun-Times, and Blagojevich asks about the viability of the creation of a 501(c)(4) to be bankrolled by wealthy Obama allies
* Blagojevich mentions how he could run such an organization, and he mentions how Senate Candidate 6, an Illinois millionaire who may be Blair Hull, can bankroll the organization, but Advisor A explains how it would be difficult for Blagojevich to appoint Senate Candidate 6 to the open seat
* Blagojevich explains how Senate Candidate 6 is better than receiving nothing for selecting Valerie Jarrett, and he asks Advisor A to locate someone who could broach the possibility of bankrolling a 501(c)(4) with Senate Candidate 6
11/12/08 Durbin announces his intent to speak about his senate candidates with Blago.
Conversation 18:
* Blagojevich speaks with John Harris
* Blagojevich and Harris learn through CNN that Jarrett has withdrawn her name from consideration for the US Senate seat
* Harris interprets it as a tactic of the Obama team
* Blagojevich broaches the topic of a 501(c)(4) again, and he mentions how Obama and allies can fund it while he is still Governor and Jarrett is Senator; Blagojevich also mentions that Senate Candidate 6 can help bankroll the issues advocacy group to be led by Blagojevich
* They agree this is easier for Obama than for Obama to appoint Blagojevich to a position
Conversation 19:
* Blagojevich discusses the open Senate seat with Advisor B
* Blagojevich discusses the option of a 501(c)(4) with Advisor B, who says the “Change for Win” option is better, for from Obama’s perspective, there would be fewer “fingerprints” of Obama’s involvement
* Advisor B mentions that “Change for Win” is a better option, as there will not be stories in four years of how Obama bought Blagojevich off
* Blagojevich mentions how a 501(c)(4) will exist in two years, while “Change to Win” may not
Conversation 20:
* Blagojevich speaks with a different DC advisor about the open Senate seat
* Blagojevich mentions the 501(c)(4), but the advisor in DC reiterates the reason why “Change to Win” is more desirable: it is one step removed from the President-elect
Conversation 21:
* Blagojevich speaks with an SEIU official, SEIU President Andy Stern, who was in DC, about the open Senate seat
* SEIU official met with Blagojevich the previous week, and Blagojevich understood Stern was an emissary of Jarrett
* Blagojevich tells Stern he heard Obama was considering candidates other than Jarrett for the open seat, and Stern states he would discuss this with Jarrett
* Blagojevich mentions the 501(c)(4) advocacy group option to Stern, and he mentions how that advocacy group could assist Jarrett
* Stern says he will “put that flag up and see where it goes”
Conversation 22:
* Blagojevich and Advisor B discuss the open Senate seat
* Blagojevich tells Advisor B that he asked Stern to broach the topic of a 501(c)(4) with Jarrett, Co-Chair of the Obama Transition Team
Conversation 23:
* Blagojevich and Harris discuss the open Senate seat
* Blagojevich mentions how he will decide how he will select a candidate for the Senate seat, and he mentions his legal situation as the most important variable
* Harris reminds him that his legal situation is the hardest one to satisfy, and Blagojevich claims it can be satisfied if he appoints himself to the seat
11/13/08 Durbin asks Blago for a meeting, voices Duckworth as a favorite.
Jarrett accepts cabinet post.
“After several pages of detailing those machinations, the criminal complaint takes an abrupt turn, describing NO WIRETAPS for a period of THREE WEEKS. The complaint says Blagojevich had “numerous conversations” about the Senate seat during that period, but it doesn’t detail any.”
Conversation 24:
* Blagojevich and Harris discuss the open Senate seat
* Blagojevich tells Harris he wants to speak directly to “President-elect Advisor” about the 501(c)(4) option and how it could be bankrolled
* Blagojevich says he wants “President-elect Advisor” to receive word of the 501(c)(4) option on that day, for when “President-elect Advisor” asks about the open fifth Congressional district Seat, it will be in the advisor’s mind
* Blagojevich may have the power to appoint a Representative to Illinois’s fifth Congressional district seat, which was previously occupied by Rahm Emanuel
Conversation 25:
* Blagojevich and Advisor A discuss open Senate seat
* Blagojevich mentions how he hopes the 501(c)(4) is in the head of the “President-elect Advisor,” but he hopes it is implanted in that person’s mind in a manner in which it is not connected to the open Senate seat or the open House seat
* When asked by Advisor A if it is, Blagojevich responds, “it’s unsaid. It’s unsaid.”
Conversation 26:
* Blagojevich and Advisor A discuss open Senate seat
* Blagojevich asks Advisor A to contact Individual A and ask Individual A to contact “President-elect Advisor” about the 501(c)(4)
* Advisor A asks if it should be mentioned outside of the open Senate and House seats, and Blagojevich says yes

Allison Davis, the mystery man, Obama's former boss, Valerie Jarrett's former partner .... always seems to be under the radar. When will he be exposed for the integral part he's played in the huge web of connections to Daley/Rezko/Obama/pay-to-play/campaign donations/low income housing boondoggles and all of the ugly corruption that spews from the Chicago political sewer ?

NOTE: some links may not work

"…One of the greatest advantages Obama has is that he’s surrounded by so many crooked deals, kooks, loons, and criminals that it’s hard for the public to understand most of what’s going on. Here in Chicago, Team Hillary kept trying to bring up Obama’s connections to Tony Rezko and the land deal for Obama’s Mansion — but people couldn’t understand what the Rezko dealings were all about. They still don’t understand it.

Saturday, November 15, 2008 - Who is Valerie Jarrett, senior White House adviser to Barack Obama?

Saturday, November 15, 2008

Who is Valerie Jarrett, senior White House adviser to Barack Obama?

This week President-Elect Obama named Valerie Jarrett his senior White House adviser. Who is Ms. Jarrett?

Certainly she is a long-time friend of and fundraiser for Barack Obama. But her ties to failed and fraudulent real estate deals in Chicago are of the most concern.

Earlier this year The Boston Globe reported on the stunning failures of Jarrett's companies. "Jarrett is the chief executive of Habitat Co., which managed Grove Parc Plaza from 2001 until this [past] winter and co-managed an even larger subsidized complex in Chicago that was seized by the federal government in 2006, after city inspectors found widespread problems."

Problems including the fact that many of the approximately one thousand housing units were "uninhabitable" and were condemned by federal authorities. Grove Parc Plaza, one of the largest residential housing complexes in Barack Obama's state senatorial district, has been at the center of a variety of scandals.

This week a non-partisan watchdog group -- Judicial Watch -- announced that it had secured documents linking Jarrett to a variety of real estate scandals including failed housing developments operated by Obama fundraiser Tony Rezko.

"Valerie Jarrett served as a board member for several organizations that provided funding and support for Chicago housing projects operated by real estate developers and Obama financial backers Rezko and Allison Davis. (Davis is also Obama's former boss.)...

... Jarrett was a member of the Board of Directors for the Woodlawn Preservation and Investment Corporation along with several Davis and Rezko associates, as well as the Fund for Community Redevelopment and Revitalization, an organization that worked with Rezko and Davis.

...(According to press reports, housing projects operated by Davis and Rezko have been substandard and beset with code violations. The Chicago Sun Times reported that one Rezko-managed housing project was "riddled with problems -- including squalid living conditions...lack of heat, squatters and drug dealers.")

...As Chief Executive Officer of the Habitat Company Jarrett also managed a controversial housing project located in Obama's former state senate district called Grove Parc Plaza. According to the Boston Globe the housing complex was considered "uninhabitable by unfixed problems, such as collapsed roofs and fire damage...
"

All subsidized by the taxpayers, mind you, and aided and abetted by the likes of Jarrett and Obama. The Boston Globe explained the troubling quid pro quo between Jarrett, Rezko and Obama:

"Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to Obama’s presidential campaign and a member of his finance committee. Jarrett is the chief executive of Habitat Co., which managed Grove Parc Plaza from 2001 until this [past] winter and co-managed an even larger subsidized complex in Chicago that was seized by the federal government in 2006, after city inspectors found widespread problems...

Allison Davis, a major fund-raiser for Obama’s US Senate campaign and a former lead partner at Obama’s former law firm. Davis, a developer, was involved in the creation of Grove Parc and has used government subsidies to rehabilitate more than 1,500 units in Chicago, including a North Side building cited by city inspectors last year after chronic plumbing failures resulted in raw sewage spilling into several apartments...

Antoin “Tony” Rezko, perhaps the most important fund-raiser for Obama’s early political campaigns and a friend who helped the Obamas buy a home in 2005. Rezko’s company used subsidies to rehabilitate more than 1,000 apartments, mostly in and around Obama’s district, then refused to manage the units, leaving the buildings to decay to the point where many no longer were habitable...

Campaign finance records show that six prominent developers - including Jarrett, Davis, and Rezko - collectively contributed more than $175,000 to Obama’s campaigns over the last decade and raised hundreds of thousands more from other donors. Rezko alone raised at least $200,000, by Obama’s own accounting. (This number now exceeds $500,000)...

One of those contributors, Cecil Butler, controlled Lawndale Restoration, the largest subsidized complex in Chicago, which was seized by the government in 2006 after city inspectors found more than 1,800 code violations...

...Obama [rewarded his backers with] legislative action as a state senator. In 2001, Obama sponsored a successful bill that increased state subsidies for private developers. The law let developers designated by the state raise up to $26 million a year by selling tax credits to Illinois residents. For each $1 in credits purchased, the buyer was allowed to decrease his taxable income by 50 cents...

The developers gave Obama their financial support. Jarrett, Davis, and Rezko all served on Obama’s campaign finance committee when he won a seat in the US Senate in 2004...

These are the kinds of heartwarming success stories that Obama and Jarrrett left in their wake in Chicago. I shudder to think what they could do to the entire country. And I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

RBO News & Views — The Stop Us If You’ve Heard This One Before Edition

Mayor Richard Daley (left, with Unprez) kin lawyer up: Ah, the Chicago Way!

The Chicago Sun-Times’ Tim Novak and Fran Spielman report today that Mayor Richard Daley’s son, Patrick Daley, and his cousin, Robert Vanecko, have hired criminal defense attorney Charles Sklarsky, a “former federal prosecutor now with the law firm of Jenner & Block, [to] represent them in the ongoing investigation of their investment in a sewer-cleaning company that won millions of dollars in no-bid contract extensions from City Hall.”

Patrick Daley then enlisted in the Army, and Vanecko started a pension investment company with Allison S. Davis (right).

One of the mayor’s top allies in the African-American community, Davis once ran a small law firm where Barack Obama worked for years.

Vanecko and Davis’ company, DV Urban Realty Partners, is also under investigation by city Inspector General David Hoffman, who wants to know why five city pension funds hired the company to invest $68 million.

Davis and Vanecko have said they plan to use the money for real estate projects in neglected city neighborhoods — including those surrounding Washington Park, a focal point of the mayor’s plans for the 2016 Olympics.

Did you catch that?

They planned to “use the money for real estate projects in neglected city neighborhoods”.

Can you say Tony Rezko? (left) Allison Davis? Penny Pritzker? Barack Obama? Here ya’ go:

Vanecko and Davis are guaranteed $3 million in fees for managing the pension fund investments under a deal that runs through Dec. 31, 2014. Among the real estate deals in which they have invested so far, they have bought an apartment building at 1212 S. Michigan and loaned $1 million to help restaurateur Matthew O’Malley redevelop the former Chicago Defender building.

Separately, a federal grand jury has subpoenaed records from the state housing authority for all records involving its dealings with Davis. The authority has financed several low-income housing projects for Davis, including some involving Tony Rezko, the convicted influence peddler and onetime key adviser to former Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Rezko and Davis were longtime business partners.

… and Rezko is Obama’s political fixer cum fund-raiser and personal real estate fairy. See how nicely all the dots connect?

Friends of Obama: “Double-Duty” Allison Davis

http://rezkowatch.blogspot.com/2008/06/friends-of-obama-double-duty-allison.html

###

“In July 2004, state pension board member Allison S. Davis voted to turn over as much as $100 million in state workers’ retirement cash to an investment management firm,” Chris Fusco, Dave McKinney and Tim Novak wrote June 26, 2008, in the Chicago Sun-Times.

“Months after it won the lucrative deal at Davis’ urging,” the investment firm, RREEF America REIT II Inc., “agreed to pay the Chicago developer $30,000 a year to take a part-time post on its board of directors, even as Davis continued to serve on the Illinois State Board of Investment.”

“There were questions about the legality of the dual roles. According to Illinois law, ‘No member of the board shall have any interest in any brokerage fee, commission or other profit or gain arising out of any investment made by the board,’ [but] the state board got a legal opinion that Davis could hold both posts as long as he didn’t vote on any future state deals for RREEF, a real estate investment trust.”

*snip*

Obama, Rezko and Davis

On February 20, 2008, RezkoWatch reported that in 1993 Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) started working at Davis’s “small Chicago law firm”. In 1998, Davis left the firm to invest in convicted political fixer Antoin ‘Tony’ Rezko’s “final government-subsidized, low-income housing project” and the deal was “handled by Davis’ former law firm.”

[Allison S. Davis is named as “Individual BB” in Tony Rezko’s court documents.]

Early Rezko political contributions made to Sen. Obama predate October 1998 letters Obama wrote on Rezko’s behalf to housing officials “in support of a proposed apartment building for senior citizens four blocks outside of his district,” a project overseen by Obama’s former boss, Allison S. Davis, who ran the project’s development company, New Kenwood LLC.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported in June 2007 that together Rezko and Davis ran the project’s development company, New Kenwood LLC, with the “development open[ing] in 2002 and end[ing] up costing $14.6 million in taxpayer money, including $855,000 in development fees for New Kenwood.”

Obama helped Davis (and Rezko) get $1 million from charity in 2000

While the Kenwood project was on-going, Obama was serving as an Illinois State Senator, on the board of the Woods Fund of Chicago charity, and still working for the law firm that represented Davis, his former boss and “a small contributor to Obama’s political campaign funds,” Tim Novak reported November 29, 2007, in the Chicago Sun-Times.

In 2000, Davis came to Obama “looking for money ... to help fund his plans to build housing for low-income Chicagoans,” Tim Novak wrote. Obama, who left the Woods Fund in 2002, agreed.

[Obama] voted with other directors of the Woods Fund of Chicago to invest $1 million with Neighborhood Rejuvenation Partners L.P., a $17 million partnership that Davis still operates.

It’s not clear whether Obama told other board members of his ties to Davis, whose family would go on to donate more than $25,000 to Obama’s political campaigns, including his bid to be president of the United States.

“Let me get back to you on that,” Obama presidential campaign spokesman Bill Burton said when asked about that ... He never did.”

Novak wrote that the Woods Fund “has no records to show whether the board knew about Obama’s ties to Davis, said Woods Fund president Deborah Harrington. ... Under its agreement with Davis, Harrington said, the fund cannot disclose how Davis has spent the money. ... Davis declined to comment.”

Was this a direct political favor for Rezko?

Yes.

Although Novak reported that it was Obama’s former boss, Davis, who asked for Obama’s help, Davis was not asking on his own behalf. He was asking for Obama’s assistance in obtaining the money for the development company which he owned and operated jointly with Rezko. It was the company that benefitted from the funding, not just Davis.

THE HUMAN STAIN
An Interview with Consultant Allison Davis

When you think of films that deal with race, you have to wonder whom the filmmakers go to get advice from as far as authenticity or experience. In “The Human Stain”, Allison S. Davis served as a consultant to the production and makes his feature film debut in a minor role as a bigoted passenger on a dining car.

As a person of color, Allison is proud of his heritage, but with extremely light skin, he often appeared to others as a white man. He was able to see and hear what others thought of blacks as they were unaware of his race.

For the last 30 years, Mr. Davis has practiced law in Chicago specializing in real estate and community development. In an interview with blackfilm.com, Mr. Davis speaks about his position as a consultant to “The Human Stain”.

How did you get brought into this film as a consultant?

AD: I have known Tom Rosenberg for about 30 years and we saw each other on the golf course about two years ago and he had asked if I had read “The Human Stain”. It didn’t trigger anything, so asked, “What’s it about?” He then started to tell me about this professor in a New England college. I then said, “Oh, yes, I read the review in the New York Times, but I was told it was loosely based on his life.” “I had intended to read it, but it slipped away when it came out during the summer” is what I said next.

He asked if I could now read it and I told him, I would be happy to do so. The next day the book showed up on my desk and I read it in like 2 days and was fascinated by the story. It really grabbed me. I called Tom and told him the book was unbelievable. We had a discussion and asked if I wouldn’t mind reading the screenplay.

I got the document and the scenes which interested me was the scene with the family where Coleman’s father brought up the issue of boxing and the one where he rejects his family and the one with the sister after the funeral.

There’s a scene where the family is having dinner and the family is leaving to catch a train. I thought that was unbelievable. I called him back and told him I thought it was better than the book.

*snip*

. My father (William Allison Davis) was a professor, a distinguished one, and was the first African American tenured professor at a major white university (University of Chicago) in this country so he went through the same debate.

He wanted to teach English at Williams but they wouldn’t hire him. His first teaching job was at Hampton and then at Dillard. He made different choices and he had a different appearance then. No one would mistake him for being white if the option weren’t open but both of his siblings were very faired and both were academics and achievers on their own.

Obama ‘s ex-boss a Rezko partner - Lawyer consulted on final Rezmar redevelopment
Chicago Sun-Times (IL) - Monday, April 23, 2007
Author: Tim Novak, The Chicago Sun-Times

EXCERPT

While Davis was running the law firm, he was also a board member of the Woodlawn Preservation and Investment Corp., a not-for-profit company that hooked up with Rezko’s Rezmar Corp. on tax-supported projects to rehabilitate apartments for low-income tenants. Davis ‘ firm handled the legal work on those housing deals.

Davis has long been an influential member of the Woodlawn community just south of the University of Chicago. His father was the university’s first African-American professor. Since 1991, Davis has been a member of the Chicago Plan Commission, appointed by Mayor Daley, a friend.

Four years ago, Blagojevich appointed Davis to the Illinois State Board of Investment, which controls state pension funds — one of a series of appointments the governor made at Rezko’s request.

Double-Duty Davis - Rezko pal pushed pension deal — and months later, the pension firm hired him
Chicago Sun-Times (IL) - Thursday, June 26, 2008
Author: Chris Fusco, Dave Mckinney and Tim Novak, The Chicago Sun-Times

In July 2004, state pension board member Allison S. Davis voted to turn over as much as $100 million in state workers’ retirement cash to an investment management firm.

Months after it won the lucrative deal at Davis ‘ urging, that investment firm hired Davis .

RREEF America REIT II Inc. agreed to pay the Chicago developer $30,000 a year to take a part-time post on its board of directors, even as Davis continued to serve on the Illinois State Board of Investment.

There were questions about the legality of the dual roles. According to Illinois law, “No member of the board shall have any interest in any brokerage fee, commission or other profit or gain arising out of any investment made by the board.”

But the state board got a legal opinion that Davis could hold both posts as long as he didn’t vote on any future state deals for RREEF, a real estate investment trust.

It’s an unusual situation. Davis — who was appointed to the state pension board by Gov. Blagojevich at the behest of since-convicted gubernatorial adviser Tony Rezko — is the only member of the state’s two main pension boards to also serve as a paid board member of a firm that handles state employees’ retirement money.

How reform-minded City Hall critic became a cozy insider - Foe of Daley I, now ally of Daley II — caught in glare of unwanted spotlight
Chicago Sun-Times (IL) - Sunday, November 11, 2007
Author: Tim Novak, The Chicago Sun-Times
As a young lawyer, Allison S. Davis was a City Hall outsider.

He criticized Mayor Richard J. Daley over the 1968 riots. He worked to integrate Chicago neighborhoods. And he fought to elect judges based on legal ability, not political connections.

Today, Davis is a consummate City Hall insider.

He’s a loyal ally of Mayor Richard M. Daley, who appointed Davis to Chicago’s prestigious Plan Commission. Davis has gotten deal after deal from the mayor, helping to make Davis one of the city’s top developers. And Davis has forged strong ties to the Daley family, doing deals with one of the mayor’s nephews and giving legal business to Daley & George, mayoral brother Michael Daley’s law firm.

Now, Davis finds himself in the glare of an unwanted spotlight.

One of his business partners, William Moorehead, recently began serving a four-year prison sentence for stealing more than $600,000 from at least 13 federally funded housing projects he managed — including two buildings that he and Davis co-own. During the period Moorehead has admitted he was stealing the money, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned, he lent Davis $100,000 — a loan that has drawn scrutiny from federal investigators, though Davis hasn’t been accused of any wrongdoing.

Mayor’s Nephew Cashing In - Bob Vanecko wants to revive Chicago’s struggling neighborhoods with $68 million in city-linked pension funds. He has his eye on areas near his uncle’s proposed Olympic stadium.
Chicago Sun-Times (IL) - Sunday, September 23, 2007
Author: Tim Novak, The Chicago Sun-Times
A nephew of Mayor Daley stands to make millions of dollars from city-connected pension funds.

In winning business from pension funds for city workers, cops, teachers and CTA employees, Robert G. Vanecko said he never told anyone he’s Daley’s nephew.

But officials with those funds knew who he was, interviews and documents show.

Vanecko and his partner, Allison S. Davis , a top mayoral ally, also asked pension funds outside Chicago to invest with DV Urban Realty Partners, a company they formed two years ago. None did.

It’s a risky venture, Vanecko and Davis warned potential investors.

Still, the city-related pensions opened their checkbooks, giving DV Urban $68 million. They did so even as they face growing financial worries, according to a recent state study.
