But did the study adjust for age? I bet most runway models are under 30 or even under 25.
Hillary’s left cankle is bigger than the average fashion model.
The models are so thin often their ribcages stick out or their chest bones portrude, their breasts just about disappear they are so tiny, their arms and legs look like a concentration camp survivor’s.
The normal sized women - the average I believe is around dress size 14 - would be considered fat by the fashion model industry.
I say screw ‘em. :)
Those women are disgusting. Every one of them could stand to put on at least 30 lbs.
I always tell my wife she’s twice the women those models are.
How much heavier than male models are average men.Not many beer guts walking the runways for men either.
The ideal weight, based on MEDICAL information, is the simple formula.
Woman’s weight (lbs) = [(Height in inches) X 5] - 200
Illegal immigration might be pulling the average down, since the typical Mexican-born peasant woman seems to come in around 4'8". ;)
Yay! I'm taller than average at 5'4-1/2". (I dont weigh anywhere near the 163 referenced here, though.) I've always been the "runt" of my family, as all of my siblings, both male and female are much taller than I am.
interesting statistics
hehe
I have to say one thing in favor of the models. Many women have dlender bones and they are perfectly healthy even if they look skinny. Many northern Russian, Baltic and Scandinavian women look skinny but their muscle, bone, fat ratios are perfectly healthy.
However, many, many American, Mexican and British women are just plain fat — no excuses except lack of movement except at the dinner table.
No question that many runway models are too skinny to be especially attractive, but 5’4” and 163 lbs is just plain fat. Also, while most of us might focus on the thin runway models when we see fashion shows, the pros are looking at the clothes. And the thin models allow the clothes to hang the way the designers want them to be seen. It’s not about how the models look, it’s about how the clothes look.
I thought average was five foot seven inches? Are we shrinking or has there been a massive immigration of short people? If anything, we just keep getting taller up here!
For this reason, my 12-year-old, who is 5-3 and 95 pounds, frets about her figure. Since she helps on the farm and plays soccer I keep reminding her she is muscular. Sometimes I fear it’s a losing battle. Mom can only say so much while the kids are getting pounded by the distorted images of “beautiful” models.
