Who Is Sarah Palin? (Long but worthwile read)
Conservatives4Palin ^ | R. A. Mansour

Posted on 03/14/2009 7:47:41 AM PDT by SolidWood

Last month, I read Lorenzo Benet's unauthorized biography of Sarah Palin, "Trailblazer," and this week I watched John Ziegler's complete interview with Sarah Palin.

The question I asked myself after finishing both is the same question I've been asking myself since August 29, 2008: Who is Sarah Palin?

Many who know her say that she is exactly the person that she appears to be. And, yet, no one is ever quite what they appear because they appear to be many things to many people. A person as complex and intriguing as Sarah Palin is certainly not that simple. However, complexity does not imply cunning or deceptive manipulation. A person can be honest, straightforward, and completely without guile and yet still be complex.

I've been fascinated by biographies and biography writing my entire life. One my favorite books on the topic is Janet Malcolm's "The Silent Woman." Malcolm tries to get to the truth behind the poet Sylvia Plath, and in my opinion comes closer than anyone else, by revealing the agendas of the biographers writing about Plath. Every biographer molds the biographical subject to fit a vision or agenda. Recognizing that is key to reading a biography objectively. We sign on to the biographer's vision, and we allow ourselves to either agree or disagree with that vision.

Lorenzo Benet's "Trailblazer" was compelling, but no thanks to any talent on his part. It was compelling because Palin is compelling. Benet is not a particularly gifted or imaginative writer. The book is little more than a compilation of various news stories supplemented by interviews. That's certainly not a bad thing. All modern mass market biographies are little more than Nexus Lexus compilations.

Romney is an abortion loving big government solution socialist. Want me to post the videos of his abortion pushing speeches again? And his bragging about RomneyCare? Maybe I should link them permanently at the top of breaking news?

Well, it appears that we have a thread full of sycophants and Palin bots. Should we as conservatives avoid engaging in cult of personality behaviour and concentrate on fighting the current battle against our current socialist regime? We ought to insure we have honest elections in 2010, marxists don't like honest elections they can lose. We also should stop hoping for a saviour or messiah. Reagan is dead, his principles are not, that is what should carry the day. Charisma makes for dangerous leaders, we already have an Obama.

Sorry if I don't share the enthusiasm for a mediocre candidate at best that probably won't be around in four years. I want a qualified person with solid conservative credentials and executive experience. The fact that Palin has access to oil revenue for her pet projects does not make her a great executive. With money I could do things too. Her personal and family life is also an issue whether you all like it or not. That will take focus away from the issues. None of the candidates that ran this last round on our side qualified as either strict constitutionalists or conservatives. Conservatism is a movement, NOT a political party. Our leaders should reflect those values and principles and not be gaged on whether they look good in a bathing suit or belong to the right religion. And, whether people like it or not identity politics is here to stay and we will need a candidate that will be able to attract disparate groups besides middle aged white people. I am not a Jindal supporter or opponent, but he is far more articulate and more in command of the issues than Palin is. So right now to me he seems as the ideal frontrunner. But three years is a long time in politics and might as well be a lifetime. In three years all our frontrunners could be nonexistent in the field. Obama has been in power for 60 days and look where we are as a nation. Will there still be a United States in six months? It took Hitler just that long to destroy the Weimar republic and consolidate power. We have to get over the "it can't happen here" mentality and realize that a coup is taking place before our very eyes. Palin is doing absolutely nothing to stop it and neither is Jindal for that matter. Our leaders will not lead us NOW when we need it, we will therefore have to lead ourselves. Wasting time fantasizing about 2012 is an exercise in idiocy. Who would have thought after 9-11 that we would be where we are today? Who would have thought that the people who voted would put someone diametrically opposed to all of the American values? Who would have thought that communist China is more capitalist than we are?

A capital idea, Jim!

It'd save us a lot of time from having to keep dredging them up and re-posting them time-and-again whenever the Romneyites post their disningenuous threads trying to convince us that Mitt's THE man.

Jindal is far more articulate (...) than Palin is.

I like Jindal, but this is nonsense. I know these are superficialities... but he has little charisma, is no crowd magnet and can't hold a real red meat stump speech. As I said, superficial things, but they matter for an election.

There’s that word charisma again. Reagan certainly didn’t have it, but he seemed far more genuine. Reagan was elected on his principles and his message not his charisma, that and his ability to convey in simple terms the conservative message. We have charisma in the white house right now, no thanks. We had charisma in Germany in 1936 too.

This is nonsense and you know it. Reagan was very charismatic, a great orator, personable, witty, dramatic... heck he was a professional ACTOR. He knew how to appeal and many voters were attracted by that.

We had charisma in Germany in 1936 too.

For Godwin's sake leave that out.

I think Saxby Chmabliss would beg to differ, especially since he owes her his job.

I expect we will see her doing just that in 2010 with numerous candidates, and that she will win the GOP primaries in 2012 and go on to be the first woman President of these United States.

She will have my vote and whole hearted support in this effort.

I think you're correct. Just based on what we've seen in the past six weeks, I don't see any economic recovery happening with the current bunch in DC.

Just based on what we've seen in six weeks, the issues in the next few elections will be trimmed to the basic priorities.

Obama is not stupid, and he is not bungling. He is going about doing exactly what he intended, and what he promised with "fundamental change".

He does not intend to re-invigorate the free market. He is a marxist ideolog who intends to fundamentally change the free market to a command economy much more in line with the ideas of his marxist mentors.

When you understand this...all that he is doing makes perfect sense...and is also obviously geared towards the undoing of this Republic as we have traditionally known it.

That's why I pray we can limit his negative impact starting in 2010, and then turn it around with SARAH PALIN in 2012.

(Sarah Palin is a smart missile aimed at the heart of the Left!)

Excellent and accurate tag line!
It is glaringly evident that Palin has the support of sane conservatives. I'm confident that the others will come on board after she captures the nomination.

I too am looking forward to some real change in 2010 and 2012.

In the meantime, the trendlines for the economy, politics, and national survival are showing a fade to Zero (pun intended) within months. Lots of wakin' up going on out there among the people.

That is an accurate and very dewxcritpitve line!

Here's how I phrase it on one of my Sarah Palin pages:

Sarah Palin is shaking the Democratic leftist-liberal house to its very foundation.

She, her family, their faith, their values, and their story (particularly of choosing life for their young son and then so obviously being blessed with love for that son and he for them) represent the absolute refutation of all the tired old liberal mantras and victimology and a culture of death that they malignantly use enslave whole classes of people.

From women's rights, to family values, to gun rights, to abortion, to energy policy, to taxation, to envrionmentalism, to fundamental governing principal, to U.S. soveriegnty and independence, and on and on...Sarah Palin is a wrecking ball to the leftist, liberal, socialist house of cards.

I believe you are correct...but he and his administration, and the leftist rabble they have supporting them in the house and senate are so firmly entrenched for the time being, that it is apt they will do real, lasting harm in the next two years.

I pray that those who are elected to route those vipers out starting in 2010 will not only do so...but at that time, they will forcefully inact legislation that overturns the damge being done.

The simple fact of her being a pro-life married mother of five with a thriving political career was--before anything else about her was known--enough for the left and its outliers to target her for destruction. She could not be allowed to contradict symbolically one of the central narratives of the left. How galling it will be to Sarah Palin's many new enemies if she survives this assault and prevails. If she does, her success may be an important moment in the struggle to shape not just America's politics but its culture.

Spot on...and my point exactly.

She is the absolute refutation and anthithesis of everything they stand for.

Undeniable and in their face by her very existance and success as a loving mother of five, particularly haing kept their youngest and not "aborted" it because of down's syndrome.

She does not have to rail at them, she does not have to say anything. Her life and acheivements speak for themselves and so they feel they must destroy her...and not just destroy her, but completely remove her and her history from public knowledge, because that very history is an enigma to everything they stand for.

For those of you who are concerned of a ‘cult following of Sarah Palin’ let me assure you, as one of her most passionate supporters that I came to, as many Palin supporters have, my decision to support Sarah rationally, with my God-given brain and my mind. In addition I, as well as miiions of other conservatives, have eyes. We know what we saw on the campaign trail, despite efforts from the MSM to filter, distort or provide a pundit leftist slant to Sarah’s performances and content.

Many followers of Obama cannot verabalize the reason his agenda is best for America. All they will tell you is that he is the Messiah; he knows all and knows what is best for America. Watch Media Malpractice to see evidence of this.

As to supporters of Sarah Palin, those who are conservatives are confident in our beliefs and we see in Sarah somebody who believes and lives her life as we do and believes in the future of America and defending the Constitution as we do.
