Holocaust Museum security guard Stephen Johns held the door open for his alleged killer.
Johns, 39, died Wednesday after being shot in the chest at the entrance to the Holocaust Museum. Authorities are preparing charges against an 89-year-old self-admitted white supremacist, James von Brunn. Von Brunn was himself wounded in a brief but furious gun battle with Johns’ colleagues.
The gunfight was captured on the museum’s security cameras, a federal law enforcement source said.
The source, who viewed the tapes, spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing. The source said the tapes show Johns holding the door open as von Brunn enters. Von Brunn then pulls an antique rifle from under his long coat and opens fire, felling Johns, the source said.
Von Brunn remained hospitalized Thursday, having undergone surgery for multiple gunshot wounds, including at least one to the face.
Mayor Adrian Fenty was scheduled to address the media on the shooting Thursday morning at 11 a.m.

This is so sad . . . prayers for the guard’s family.

For the press - which is powerful - to use this nut to express their hate for conservatives ( who are not nutty haters) is akin to what Hitler did to the Jews in Germany.
Go back and read German papers at the time - they didn't doubt Hitler - they went after powerless Jews - and tried to paint all of them with the brush of the few who were criminal. Then they went further - and lied about the Jews (who were not committing enough crimes to feed their hatred - like the "fake" conservatives who gin up hatred by pretending to be conservatives ) - running stories that were half truths.
Creating scapegoats out of a powerless group is cowardly. And as nutty as this man is, he doesn't command the power a Barney Frank deals when he decides single handily to take over the freedoms of private business.
Summer ? Not heat this year.
What is crazy is that I was just there on Friday. As soon as you walk in the door there are guards and metal detectors. The shooting must of just occured in the lobby.
My son-in-law knew this guard through work he has done there the last five years.
He said this man was a nice stand up guy, the kind of man you would love to have as a friend.
Now this ultra left-wing nut job has ended his life. They have the same plans for the rest of us no doubt.
