chrb writes "Two British men have become the first to be jailed for inciting racial hatred online. The men believed that material they published on web servers based in the United States did not fall under the jurisdiction of UK law and was protected under the First Amendment. This argument was rejected by the British trial judge. After being found guilty, the men fled to Los Angeles, where they attempted to claim political asylum, again arguing that they were being persecuted by the British government for speech that was protected under the First Amendment. The asylum bid was rejected and the two were deported back to the UK after spending over a year in a US jail."
coming to amercia soon.
Of course you are still allowed to bash Christians in England. In fact, it is encouraged.
.....coming soon to this country to people like me, on this site....the only non protected group will be straight white Christian men.
And they are!
Here's what they did...
"The men were charged with publishing and distributing racially inflammatory material, and possessing racially inflammatory material with a view to distribution. The published material included images of murdered Jews alongside cartoons and articles ridiculing ethnic groups."Uh, ok. Not very nice. But the reasoning for arrest...?
Judge Rodney Grant told the men their material was "abusive and insulting" and had the potential to cause "grave social harm". He added: "Such offences as these have, by their very nature, the potential to cause grave social harm, particularly in a society such as ours which has, for a number of years now, been multi-racial. "
WTF? What is "social harm"? Here's my take as a JEW. I do not think they should have been arrested. Nor do I think anyone who distributes racist material should be arrested. this is free speech, which I guess they don't have in the UK anymore. When do you ever see Muslims arrested over there for this? And those folks KILL people, like they did on 7/7.
:crosses fingers there's some planet with Native Americans on it we can kick them out and build a new America there:
Judge Rodney Grant told the men their material was “abusive and insulting” and had the potential to cause “grave social harm
Can we use this judge and apply this to Obama?
His policies are abusive and insulting and have the potential to cause grave social harm..
England has First Amendment rights????
WTF?
It has to come down to a fight.
That’s the only thing left to use in their arsenal.
I had posted my views on the necessity of free speech, even if that speech is judged offensive, such as racist. If a society claims to promote individual freedom, it must allow people to express their views, especially if those views are deemed offensive. Unless mistaken or offensive views are expressed, they can never be corrected or rebuked. No one has the right not to be offended.
No one has the right to be heard. If I don’t want to listen to you, I don’t have to hear you. I don’t have to support a media that broadcast things that I find objectionable, such as NPR, NYT, or MSNBC.
FR is a privately owned or administered board. It has the right to control what is on it. I would hope that sense it describes itself as Free Republic that it would err on the side of less censorship than on limiting the free flow of ideas, even they are offensive.
Between the three of them, the judge is the serious criminal.
Take a good look at how muslims treat their host country. ROP.

While I object to that kind of law in the first place and am grateful for our first amendment, at least when its enforced, hosting of a foreign server isn’t going to help one get around U.S. law either - claiming that kiddie porn or a terrorist threat or whatever was legal because it wasn’t on a U.S. server would not fly.

UK swirls down into the sewer, followed at some distance by America.
Across the west, all liberties are being supplanted by positive “rights”. No free speech, but “free” healthcare. No freedom of association, but guaranteed monthly stipend. No freedom of religion, but at least we have food stamps. No property rights, but at least we have rent controls. They want to ban smoking, eating unhealthy food, cycling without a helmet, taking supplements not endorsed by the FDA/big-pharma, and so on, but require everyone to subsidize the medical treatment of drug addicts, collectors of sexually transmitted diseases, insane folks who voluntarily mutilate their bodies, etc.
In concert with faux-environmentalism, I’d say they are doing a pretty good job of destroying western civilization.
they came here?
don’t they know about the DHS memo making all of us domestic terrorists?

Grave social harm? That sounds almost exactly like the reasoning given for the medieval practice of burning heretics at the stake. I wonder if the modern Brit would defend that behaviour?
