Yikes- this is pretty alarming. With one exception- if they had actionable intel there was a real threat- in which case- normally- they would tell POTUS to reschedule, change or cancel the event.
I don’t think this president would knowingly put himself in any kind of personal danger (nor should he, for that matter) so it seems for whatever reason- the SS took extreme measures. But why?
Although...after reading some of the posts on this thread- perhaps this really is SOP and it’s simply that many citizens (including me) have never been close to a presidential motorcade and so weren’t prepared for what they saw..
I imagine these are stressful days for the Secret Service.

WHen Bush came to Indy there were no such vehicles or “troops” Just vehicle and police escort. We stood along the street to watch them go by. There were many of us, who had tickets, but couldn’t get in to see him.
When a child I stood along a major highway in front of the school to see Ike. He stopped the motorcade at various times and shook our hands. I was playing at playing a saxaphone and he put his hand on top of mine and winked. He had the kindest beautiful blue eyes.

No-one wants a President to be in danger, but this is ridiculous.If they had intel evidence that he was in danger, they would have changed the motorcade route or cleared the route.
I have been in line watching a presidential motorcade and have never seen this kind of stuff. Also, years ago when Bush 1 came to our town to speak, the Secret Service interviewed everyone who lived in a apartment house directly across the street from where he would be standing to give his speech. A friend of mine lived there and was ‘interviewed’ days before he arrived.
Of course, times have changed since 911, but not even President Bush had this kind of stuff going on after 911 and he had every jihadi on the planet gunning for him.

It is starting to look like Obama wants to stir up the racial tensions in this country to me.
Just calling it like I see it. Look at all the media attacks of late calling conservatives ‘racists’!!
This is starting to piss people off BIG TIME! My Goldwater REPUBLICAN, WHITE, parents volunteered many hours for the civil rights of blacks in the south during the early 60’s and I’ll be damn if I allow these race hustlers to call me a racist!

I live near Bristol and my son, my granddaughters and I were watching the motorcade go by on I-81 after the Kroger event. My son all of the sudden excitingly said something like- did you see all of those guys with the guns out the window? We were standing a good distance away and the motorcade was traveling very fast and my son still saw this. I didn’t see it, but, he sure did.
We went to see VP Bush when he was campaigning for the Presidency over 20 years ago—at an airport—and aside from the media, there were not too many of us (the general public) there....maybe 30 people. There was a bomb-sniffing dog, and no doubt very stringent security, but we were able to meet and mingle without a barrier, and we certainly saw NO weapons pointed at us whatsoever. It is later than we think in this country.
What ever happened to the other bit of fiction about the Secret Service agent getting the boot from the White House last week?
Sometimes when the agents are moving around, you can see their burp guns underneath their suit coats. They don’t brandish them. Look for the snipers off in the distance. That’s normal procedure.
Secret Service is reacting to the threat level. You can bet that the White House is receiving some pretty serious mail and so the Secret Service posture is to cause would be’s think about any action they might take.
There is a video of youtube. The title is Bristol Kroger Motorcade. You can hear the people talking about when it happens, saying it was crazy.
I came home and checked out some youtube videos of other motorcades, and I couldn’t see in any of them but one (for Bush in NYC which it looks like it may have happened) that any guns were pointed at civilians.
I was there also, and pretty upset to have the guns pointed at me.
