I’ll bet that must have been freaky.
As a retired constitutional lawyer who now teaches constitutional law I can tell you that I worked with the Secret Service when I was an advance man for the Reagan campaign. What is described here is unheard of. It has never occurred before to my knowledge and is probably illegal. The members of the Secret Service may only draw and expose their weapons if there is an immediate and imminent threat to the life of the President. Anything else would be considered an attempt to intimidate people exercising their first amendment rights. Such action could only be ordered by the President himself and even then would be outside of his constitutional authority. This scares the hell out of me.
I live in Johnson City, just down the road from Bristol. Were you ever inside the Kroger forum during the visit? I was told only Kroger employees and union folks were allowed and that by invitation only ... something about Boucher using it to pump up his capital in SW VA.
