Not sure that’s a fair assessment. I have many friends and family members who lean to the left, and to call them dumb would be a ridiculous statement. However, if I were to hazard a guess as to why they’re angry, I’d say it’s because they know their closely-associated party is doing everything wrong. But to voice their concerns would mean we right-wing ‘kooks’ are correct, and that dog just won’t hunt.

So dumb? No.

Stubborn to the point where it can be construed as absolutely clueless? Absolutely.

I have met many leftists, and many are glib, but it's easy to be glib when you are lying, They are all stupid or dishonest, at some very fundamental level.

Yeah, but that’s dumb! Refusal to admit that one is wrong and to insist on doing the wrong thing just so that one doesn’t look bad is itself a very stupid act. So ultimately they ARE stupid.
