Here is the text of the amendment:

‘‘SECTION 1. The sovereign right of the people to govern being essential to a free democracy, Congress and the States may regulate the expenditure of funds for political speech by any corporation, limited liability company, or other corporate entity.
‘‘SECTION 2. Nothing contained in this Article shall be construed to abridge the freedom of the press.’’.

The people do not have a "sovereign right to govern". They have a right to govern themselves. Corporations are composed of people, and are both funded and governed by them who have a financial interest in them. Any restrictions imposed upon their expenditures for the free expression of ideas is instantly violative of the 1st Amendment, and also the powers granted to Congress under Article I Section 8 of the Constitution. Oh, and by the way: the US is not a "democracy"; it is a Republic composed of a federation of sovereign states. Other than those objections, I think the proposed amendment would pass Constitutional muster < snicker>.

Are corporations allowed to own the press?

I see Keith Olberman ranting and raving on this issue, but is he not himself an employee of a corporation, and given unlimited free speech? So, why should any other person, or corporation be denied the same???

GE owns MSNBC right, so why should they, or Comcast, be allowed rights that Ford, McDonalds, Boeing, or any other corporation are denied?
