The year was 1983. I was in Kindergarten and was attending a private (Desoto) school K-12 in Helena, AR. There are two advertisments that stand out from the usual welding supply, big family farm, CO-OP, John Deer Dealer, Local Propane/Gulf dealer etc. advertisements. The very first ad was a picture of the Senior Class Favorite (full page ad) with a caption above his head stating “Now that he has graduated welcome to MILLER TIME”. Below him in the bottom half of the page is the Miller High Life logo with the local Distribution company name below. Further back in the ads a quarter page ad for Budweiser Light bought by the local Bud distributing company says: “For all you T-Birds (the school mascot) do this Bud’s for you.” How’s that for some K-12 advertising?

Like I said, I think it’s a good idea, as long as the ads are approved, and not radical or bad for kids.

So, who gets to decide what's appropriate? Who has the power to 'censor' the ads? What if I decide that I'm being unfairly being denied to advertize my Gentlemen's Club - I mean a fresh crop of High School girls 18 yrs of age could make a decent income there, right? Who do I sue?

Is the potential income worth the potential risk? I'd say 'No'; let's keep the the school system out of the commercial business, and let them continue to fail at teaching our children. I see the opportunity for failure written all over this one - and when the schools fail yet again, the Taxpayer will be hit with the costs.

I don't think this is a good idea for Public Property - Big Yellow billboards tooling around town....

Can they sell locker door ad space too?

School football and soccer fields plastered with ads?

Food Product signs on cafeteria walls?

Sports uniforms with sponsor patches (like NASCAR)

The only thing I would worry about is the approval by liberal school boards. It would end up as selling ad space to trampy clothing companies, latest trashy RAP stars, family planning clinics, liberal political candidates and issues, Oprah...

There is so little the government can do to make a profit, I say go for it. Use the opportunity to lower taxes.

It’d be better if they didn’t look like a NASCAR ... and they should certainly restrict who can market (having a Strip Club ad on there is a lousy idea).

It's only cool for ads like this:

Seriously - who would decide what is an acceptable ad and what is not? Would it be OK with you if they shot down a pro-life ad? What if they OK'ed a Planned Parenthood ad?

Why stop at the buses? Line the classrooms with ads, maybe condom ads in restrooms. Ad inserts for the textbooks and commercials as background sounds over the P.A. system and billboards on the outside walls of the school with neon signs.
But all in good taste of course. Of course.
