Health care speech I gave at CSU
YouTube ^

Posted on 03/11/2010 8:19:08 PM PST by future F22 pilot

Hey everyone this is a video of a speech I gave at CSU for my public speaking class. I did it on the current health care bill, I presented both sides of the issue just to get a better grade, but definitely leaned to one side. I will be doing a policy speech next where I plan to rip the Dem plan to shreds, but I also have to present a new policy (it really is stupide, in this case NO should be a policy)

Anyways I wanted to get your feedback on it as well as some ideas for what to include in the next speech.

On another note, is there anyway to change your username? Mine no longer applies, I was diagnosed with a chronic disease and am not able to serve.

TOPICS: Health/Medicine
KEYWORDS: care; health; healthcare

Over 20 years ago I heard Leonard Pleikoff give a keynote 90 minute speech on the healtcare problems of the day. If you can get a copy of that you would have a good place to start.

Here is a link to an article he wrote on CLinton Care but it is still applicable.

I would present the point that we have the best health care system in the world and the only reason costs are up is government intervention.

Before 1965 when Medicare was passed most hospitals were non-profits funded and sponsored by the major churches. In my town there was the Baptist Hospital, the Methodist Hospital, The Catholic Hospital (St. something) and a county run charity hospital. Most would do all they could to not go to the charity hospital because of the shame involved.

Insurance was reasonably priced and so were doctors. Worst case a doctors appointment was no more than 2 days away. Suing a doctor or hospital was almost unknown.

Churches were also the main source of neighbor helping neighbor. No one went hungry much less starved. Clothes were provided as well as food for those who were truly unfortunate. No government involved.

For 80 + years the Democrats have been increasing government involvement in all aspects of our lives and the costs have grown accordingly. Health care is just the popular subject now because they are trying to take over the entire industry.

Government intervention in our everyday lives is totally unnecessary. We will not turn on each other in a dog eat dog survival contest. People are generally good!

Back to your question - I would say this country was better without government involvement and would be again today.

You did good, young feller. For your next speech perhaps you could make NO the central theme of your policy and support it with free market and Constitutional principles of liberty to show that "no" to political policies can be a big "yes" to social and business policies. Anyway, nicely done.

Sorry to hear you won't be realizing that dream of being an F-22 pilot. I think the mods will work with you on changing your handle. You may have to hit the abuse button on yourself to get their attention. They won't mind I have seen them say that that is the best way to make sure they hear you.

Good job. I watched/listened to the entire thing. I couldn’t hear the questions, how did they trend?

As far as presentation: You look good (is that a Freeper jacket?), but you look a little bit scared. A big long smile at the beginning of the presentation would take that scared look away. Also, please try to speak a little slower and occasionally “hit” a word or two here and there harder, giving your speech more drama.

You sure know your stuff. It is obvious you have studied this subject in depth and, well, I’m impressed.

Thanks for sharing. I favorited you and gave you top star rating.

Sorry to see of your diagnosis. Will your new screen name be “former future F22 pilot”?

The questions were about even. A few of the students are from Texas and were against it, one is from Venezuela and made the point about Latin American countries having socialized medicine but you have to buy private insurance anyways.

I talked fast to get through it all, I only had 5 minutes for the speech, my presentation does need work though. I thought it was a little dry.

Oh, and no its a USAF jacket

I hadn’t thought about my screen name, perhaps “the poster formerly known as future F22 pilot”

Please don’t let any diagnosis steal your dreams and goals. If you think it, you can achieve it. Have faith and keep dreaming.

Oh it isn’t stopping me.

I wanted to be a F22 pilot but my real goal is to win a campaign for president.

I started following politics on 9/11, and since then have set my sights on the highest position. I am currently a political science major am planning on becoming a prosecuter. But recently another option has arisen, I got a job at an electronics recycling company recently. They have really liked my work and promoted me and routinely seek my advice on business decisions. I may look to grow in this company and then run as a businessman, undecided yet.

Sounds really good. Don't you love it when people seek your advice? It really makes you feel good. Keep us posted!

It does make me feel good. Especially when I’m only 20 years old and they come to me asking if we should get a certain account, or sell a product to a certain customer. But I have to give all the credit to God, he gave me my brains and I thank him every day.
