I too have read history. They can not take what they can not find. This goes for weapons, fuel, and food. Beside my own acreage there is almost 2 million acres of national forest land and BLM land within a couple hours in my truck and a day or two on my horses and mules.
To go to war with the government is futile. But I can out survive them.
I'm a gunsmith, I can make effective single shot weapons out of a plumbing store parts if I need to. I've been blowing stumps with fertilizer and fuel since I was in junior high school. Most every farm boy/ranch kid I know has these skills. I can farm with my mules. My ability to survive has been proven from Nam in 71 to Somalia in 93. I am very aware of the potential of our military. I also know that very few active duty personnel will actually pull a trigger on their own people. I also know that if they try to bring in the UN, that the active duty folks will turn on this government.
I have a very long history on the inside of the military machine. I can't defeat it and don't have to. I can avoid it and become a major thorn in their side if I want to. Mainly I can teach others how to survive and how to resist. You sound as if you have already chosen which side you will be on. Bet on one thing, what ever I have you will never get. As I depart one place for the next it will be scorched earth behind me. Power, water, and highways all run across our country and it wouldn't take a lot to shut them all down. We grow the food or not as we chose. You might want to reevaluate your situation. There are a lot of us country boys/vets out here. Do you think we forgot everything we learned???

That's true, but now they don't have to. We have so much non-lethal stuff at our disposal now (built up and tested all throughout Iraq and Afghanistan), that they'll be able to immobilize you and take what they like while detaining you. They get your stuff, they get the (mostly) clear conscience, and you get the work camp.

Plus, you should be nicer to Travis McGee. He's definitely one of the good guys.

er...I think you and Travis share the same background.

His post was more likely a shot of reality to the discussion...

He’s the last person I expect to be taking the wrong “side”

That’s one way it can work out, among many. I do strongly suggest Fernando Aguirre’s book for a fresh look at post-collapse survival dynamics.

well worth repeating “There are a lot of us country boys/vets out here” . We 3%’rs will not lay down and summit.

Excellent post - your moniker fits you well.

I plan to walk off into the tall grass myself. No sense in trying to raid- It will just attract attention... They'll have enough on their hands than to worry about me and mine 50 miles back in the sticks...

Same with the idea of trying to create a fortress and staying put - Bad idea to try and protect a fixed position, as not only the gubmint can find you, but also gazillions of folks without the wherewithal to do what you have... they will ALL be trying to get at your stores. Desperation is a terrible thing.

Nope. Better to stay light and mobile. Stash a few caches close to where you figure you are going, scout out some good places to hole up for winter... keep your head low and wait for the end of it all.

Mules/horses do little good if the scram happens in the winter though. Dogs and caches in that case...

Once my folks are safe, mebbe then I will drift down and see what I can do to help whatever resistance in taking place.

Nice to hear your take on what the US Mil will do. Drones are the only thing I worry about - Pretty cheap way to take out folks in the back woods. I wonder what they'd be looking for... Prolly IR signature/fire... two things I can't do much about. I can make due without metal, but fire is necessary.
