and the movie is also a virtual love letter to Ronald Reagan.
Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr., whose performance seems meant to school Christian Bale in the art of playing things loose) finds himself in trouble with a weaselly senator (Garry Shandling). The lawmaker accuses Stark, who has been boasting to the world of his ability to keep the peace, of purposely developing an offensive weapon that he misleadingly calls a defensive weapon.
That this is exactly the argument liberals (and the Soviets) used to excoriate Ronald Reagan and his SDI plan is delicious but it gets better. As played by Shandling, the senator, who is from Pennsylvania, bears more than a slight resemblance to Arlen Specter, the classic Capitol Hill weasel who called himself a Republican for as long as he found it convenient and is now not only a Democrat but one of the most reliably liberal members of his caucus.....

I hope he is able to maintain this healthy lifestyle - he is a great actor.
I think that's pretty inappropriate. I mean, if they made a biopic of Rosa Parks and had Nicole Kidman play the part, people would protest.
My 2 cents. I saw the first “Ironman” at my son’s house last Christmas. I immediately went out and bought the DVD. I’ve liked Downey since “Air America”. Glad to hear he’s dones things to get his life back in order. I hope he stays with us.
Tom Selleck too. At least libertarian I think.
Not the best way to "inform your proclivities" and come around to understanding the foibles of liberalism. But, I can very well understand what he means.
I love that in the movie he donates his entire art collection to the Boy Scouts of America, an organization the culture now considers evil.
bump
Now, I’m just glad he’s off drugs.
He’s a fantastic actor and whatever his political leanings, he’s much better sober.
That name is no longer spoken in our house since he unmasked and came out in favor of superpower / mutant registration. (So did Tony Stark). Before that he was my favorite character bar none.
It doesn’t matter squat in the current movie timeline and frame, but certain purists refere to Fury’s “Howling Commandoes” era, insisting that he had to be white.
Think of “The Kingpin” and MDC’s portrayal. Perfect physical presence and the skin color isn’t an issue. I’ve always looked at The Kingpin as an albino (neither black nor white).
Now, the choice of Affleck as DD is what disturbed me most.
“Matrix ... I only consider the first one, since the other two stink on ice.”
I know someone that only saw the first one and not the other two ... I envy that person :-)!
I’d find it a challenge, personally, to screw up a franchise much like the Matrix sequels and Star Wars prequels did. I wanted to rip my eyes out during the last Matrix movie and my late father summed up Attack of the Clone by sleeping through the “Jedi dynamic pose sequence” (saw all 6 of the Star Wars movies on opening day with him ... damn shame the “first 3” were so terrible).
I’m still also trying to figure out who in their right mind actually liked any of the Star Trek Next Generation films. If they were TV episodes, I could buy something like First Contact being good. However, I recently watched all 4 of them on BluRay and wondered how in the hell these films made it into theaters. Everything from the writing down to the music and special effects stunk (even for the 1990s).
As far as Iron Man is concerned, I didn’t see that until it came out on DVD. It was one of those few films I regret not seeing in the theaters. I hope this new one is as good as the first :-)!
He is one of the few actors that just amazes me. He is almost worthy of the old time actors.
Loved this movie man..

Actually the Nick Fury in this movie is based off the Nick Fury in the Ultimate Marvel Universe. Another fun fact, is that they made him look just like Samuel L. Jackson in the comic book and had to ask him for permission. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate_Nick_Fury
But I like the originals so it would have been cool to see the orignal Nick Fury in this movie.
Next Question : What race is Peter Parker in the Ultimate Universe ?
He’s white
Seriously? Good Lord, Marvel really is run by hard-core leftists....
I read an article (I think here on FR) showing some panels from Captain America where he’s infiltrating the highly racist Tea Party in order to get to a terrorist bad guy. It was unbelievable.
Saw it this morning at an IT vendor presentation.
Loved it!
