I answer those sort of questions every time I come to America.

Even more odd ones such as:

Have you ever committed genocide?

- A meek not that I can recall though I have been drunk a few times.

Do you plan to engage in terrorism once you land?

- Nope, unless you count Karaoke?

etc.

Most of the border guards I met asked all these questions in a zombie like manner. I answer my karaoke thing and off I go.

That is not the point though.

It seems you all missed this.

These border guards just wasted time in order to be sadists and made America more insecure in the meantime.

So these guys protected your rights?

The right to be a sadist?

Sometime I wonder why the is so much anti gay stuff here. Now.... Repression?

What bothers me a bit, is how people are horrified as to SWAT squads are assaulting grand mothers, and border guards on a power trip.

The American constitution was built in on the separation of powers.

Now you have the Police acting like Judge Dread.

Scratch that. Judge Dread had honour.

I listened to the tape twice. I was even more convicted that they acted properly the second time.
Again had these been police officers in any American city, totally different story.

But they are dealing with non US citizens with a very different set of rules.
I heard nothing improper in what the asked this guy and thought they showed great restraint.

And the DID treat this guy decently, more decently than he was entitled to with his aggressive attitude.
This guy was at our nations border, seeking to enter our country.
He does not have the right, only is granted the privilege after a proper screening.

Indeed, and he respected the law...

something that police and congressmen have in common is that they believe themselves to be superior to and above the law.
Perhaps that’s why the public opinion of police is rapidly coming to be on-par with that of congress.

I think the founders would be horrified to see the “standing army” of federal agents today.

I see both sides of this issue. Some of the “stupid” questions the agents ask are for a reason. Think of how they caught that girl once in Germany whose “boyfriend” had packed her suitcase, said he would meet her in the middle east, and sent her to her certain death if they hadn’t found the bomb. Asking this Canadian on the tape “Is this your girlfriend?” when they heard it was his wife might be to trip him up. They are looking for consistency.

You don’t HAVE to come to the USA to shop. It’s good if you do, but then sit there in your car and be respectful, and answer even the stupid questions calmly.

The agent said he saw 3 terrorists a day trying to cross in.

On the other hand, agents are NOT VERY CONSIDERATE of foreigners entering this country. I have experienced this firsthand because I used to be married to a foreigner, and we would go through customs at JFK together. Um, NOT a picnic to be in the foreigner line there. So I know there could be more consideration.

But I really would like to prevent a 9/11. So I am OK with it, for the most part.

Yeah they might have the right to abuse this guy?

Does that excite you?

While they wasted time in this real terrorists might have gotten through the border.

But, what does that matter as long as you can shine your own ego. Though guys, bullying some Toronto guy.

Believe me you have lost a lot of friends over this video. Does it matter?

Who knows.

Let God judge.

“Yeah they might have the right to abuse this guy?”

Point out where in the tape they abused the guy? Asking basic screening questions and getting smart a$$ed answers is not abuse.

Their job is to ask questions and see how people answer. If someone is evasive or unsure, then they will hone in in that person.

I will give you a blow by blow as soon as I can.

At least what I consider abuse...

Now off to my family.

Cheers and have a good weekend :-)

If a Canadian is not willing to answer a few simple questions, honestly and without challenge, then they are free... to stay the hell out of my country.

Huh? I hope you meant to reply to someone else. Otherwise I would say you are a Euro TWIT.

If the guy had an ounce of common sense he would have realized that rightly or wrongly, these agents were drop dead serious and would have served himself better had he shut up.

I do not confuse treating law enforcement with respect as being submissive to authority. I also know to pick my battles wisely.

I haven’t a clue what you’re referring to????? Questions about what, and who is arguing about border behavior?

The more than a dozen times i’ve been in Texas I couldn’t get my ass out of that hell hole fast enough!

Wow, dalereed, we don't agree on much, do we, LOL.

I been to Texas many times, and have always been treated with respect, and friendliness from the Texans, and 99% of Americans from other States.

Your post got me thinking, so I looked up the head office of that company.....I wasn't surprised to find out it's based in California.

Eurotwit, I didn't mean to give the impression that I am usually treated poorly by Americans. Most of them are genuinely nice to deal with. Even most of the Californians. ;-)

I just hate "authority figures" abusing their positions. Some border guards do their job with much more professionalism than the first one did on that tape. It might have been a hot day, and he got fed up with his job, or something, but it was obvious the couple who had made this crossing at least 10 times this year, were excited about their shopping trip, and in good moods. The Canadian woman sounded really excited about going shopping when her husband answered that question, for instance.

The guard, having a bad day, took their relaxed attitude for......what?
Insubordination? Rudeness? I don't know, but I also suspect the Canadian man wouldn't have kept pushing if he hadn't had a tape recorder on him.
