BP Official Admits to Damage BENEATH THE SEA FLOOR

As I noted Tuesday, there is growing evidence that BP's oil well - technically called the "well casing" or "well bore" - has suffered damage beneath the level of the sea floor.

The evidence is growing stronger and stronger that there is substantial damage beneath the sea floor. Indeed, it appears that BP officials themselves have admitted to such damage. This has enormous impacts on both the amount of oil leaking into the Gulf, and the prospects for quickly stopping the leak this summer.

On May 31st, the Washington Post noted:

Sources at two companies involved with the well said that BP also discovered new damage inside the well below the seafloor and that, as a result, some of the drilling mud that was successfully forced into the well was going off to the side into rock formations.

"We discovered things that were broken in the sub-surface," said a BP official who spoke on the condition of anonymity. He said that mud was making it "out to the side, into the formation."

B.S. This is Obama’s disaster. Otherwise, let’s ask him what Bush would do and bring back people with a brain to handle this dang disaster!

Of course it is! You know that, I know that, and more and more of our fellow citizens know that, but still, the democrats simply cannot deal with reality, so everything they don't like continues to be "Bush's fault." Perhaps this'll be more to the point:

I’m still convinced there was something geological that caused this to be far more severe than it probably would have.

In the past, they drilled into the piping of the well above the leak and created a new pump/BOP apperatus. I think this “blow out” means we are totally screwed because the thing has totaly blown out and there are not pipes remaining.

Unfortunately, neither BP nor the BamBam Czars are letting us in on the facts of the situation. Why? Because they are Marxists and suck big time. They have a lap dog media. We (America) are totally screwed.

I didn’t see any of the ol’ enviro-weenies or the save the animal groups out there helping clean things up.....seems to me they’d be pitching in in droves.....they are a total embarrassment to their cause. But that does figure...all talk no action!

Not exactly. The relief wells can be used to pump kill mud in at the bottom of the well, where it will put pressure on the producing formation even if the casing uphole is damaged. The wellbore can be cemented off, just not from the top, the kill mud and cement has to be pumped in at the bottom, which will actually put less pressure on the casing above it than trying to pump in kill mud from the top of the wellbore.

The relief well has been the most likely method to succeed from the start.

I am a lawyer and I would advise my clients to stay as far away as possible without an ironclad Release and Hold Harmless. If you help out, they will sue you out of existence.

Maybe this article is correct and oil will rupture through crevices in the sea floor.

But I see from a BP video, the relief well is meant to intersect the well at around 18,500 feet down, I assume that is below all the damaged equipment and piping above. It would seem this article’s scenario depends on the subsurface fracturing all the way down to the oil reservoir.

The head of the BP team says they have drilled 40 relief wells and every one worked.

This is not going to be a bad summer for the whole Gulf region, it may just be horrible at best!

The relief well has been the most likely method to succeed from the start.

About the only thing different I would like to see would be at least 2 more relief wells being drilled. I think the magnitude of the situation demands that. Things don't always go as planned and 4 relief wells greatly increase the odds of success. At worse you would have at least 2 or 3 wells to produce the zone and help pay for damages.

This oil spill is a game changer, folks. This is the real deal.

Could you please explain what you mean by that? Thank You.

I mean it is a mega-catastrophe whose damage is going to be incalculable. At this point, I think only time will tell the true extent. Let’s pray that BP’s releif wells do what they are supposed to, because if not, we are in HUGE trouble.
