If he has the time and the opportunity any service will pay 75% to 100% of his tuition and books for college courses completed while he serves. In a perfect world he could finish a 4 year degree during his enlistment, get out, and then use his GI BILL to pay for grad school.

My daughter’s friend did that. He is in Kandahar now.

That is extremely difficult for even the most dedicated kids. Deployment schedules make it nearly impossible. Throw in the other priorities he’ll have and its even harder.

There is talk about pulling tuition assistance so you have to get it while the getting's good.

The flip side is that the 9/11 GI bill is really nice. 36 months of tuition, fees, and books, plus E-5 with w/dependent BAH. The tuition limit is for the highest in state for your state of residence, but there are ways to get around that if you want to go somewhere else.
