Apologizing for Obama's Serial Apologies
Pajamas Media ^ | June 18 | David Solway

When Obama is swept from office in 2012, as he surely will be if the American people still retain a femtogram of good sense, a Republican president will have his or her work cut out for them. Be it Mitt Romney or Sarah Palin or — who knows? — the very impressive Tom McClintock (sanely refusing to apologize to Mexican President Felipe Calderón, who objected to the Arizona immigration law, but administering a thorough dressing down instead), a major rehabilitation effort will be necessary. For the new president will have to embark once again on a worldwide “reset” campaign, apologizing to America’s allies for the shabby treatment meted out to them by the former president....

He will only be ‘swept from office’ if we stop the Dems’ ongoing effort at rigging everything in sight in their favor: the census, the electoral system, the gigantic political slush funds, the forced governmental dependancy of the electorate to name but four. If we fail at any one of these - bye bye freedom!

Totally agree with “(W)hen the business of restitution is accomplished, enemies put on notice and friends restored to their proper place, and once the United States is prepared to resume its former pre-eminence and proud stature as the world’s best arbiter and as Abraham Lincoln’s “last best hope,” apologies can cease altogether — except, perhaps, for the apology the American people should make to themselves and to their children for having elected the most feckless and damaging sorcerer’s apprentice of a president in the storied chronicle of the republic.”

I didn’t elect him, but I know I constantly have to explain why we have such an idiot for president to my 9-year old nephew and I’m ashamed.

I don’t recall Ronald Reagan apologizing for Jimmy Carter’s inept handling of foreign policy. The reality is, the instant world leaders saw him elected, they recognized that adults were back in charge.

Why else do you think the Iranians released American hostages on the very day he was inaugurated? They knew that what they’d managed to get away with for more than a year under Carter would be met with a far more stern response from the new administration.

I think he is pretty much saying that we are in need of some more cowboy diplomacy

Categorical rejection of the puling, cowardly, guilt-mongering policies put in place by the disgraceful 0bama administration will be apology enough. Understand that never once has he apologized for "us," he has apologized for an America that is "them," that is Bush, that is Republican or conservative. To be progressive and internationalist is to be ideologically pure, incapable of error, and if anything bad does happen there's always the other side to blame for it.

It is a real pity, but no real surprise, that this high-school debate squad approach to foreign policy has failed to yield the glorious utopian fruit its proponents promised. 0bama's real problem is that the more it looks like he's a one-term lame duck, the more aggressive the country's enemies are likely to be, in order to gain as much as possible before the curtain falls on the farce. That sort of thing cannot make the curtain fall any sooner, but it can make it fall harder.

What 0bama's defenders are beginning to realize, to their horror, is that within this dynamic it scarcely matters who the Republican candidate is as long as he - or she - is suitably dismissive toward the mess he's made of things and energetic about taking the responsibility to set it right. We have enemies - let them be treated as enemies and not fellow-traveling Leftists obeying a higher law. The latter isn't even a very good mask - name, for example, a single concession Hugo Chavez has made toward his ostensible ideological soulmate in the White House. The Castros? Mahmoud Ahmadinejad? Strangely, the magic of international comity has not followed 0bama's abasement, only expanded aggression.

Russia has played a weak hand into a strong one with respect to Iran and Russia's centuries-old ambitions toward a southwestward sweep around the Black Sea and toward the Mediterranean, its eyes on a rejuvenated Ottoman Empire under Persian/Turkish proprietorship, as an ally this time, not a rival. 0bama the Fool has chosen to cast this as the entirely justifiable "right" of Iran to weapons that will make it so. The potential geopolitical consequences, both for a weakened and despondent Europe and the entire world, may be enormous. To 0bama the Fool this is simply another entry in the narrative of indigenous peoples making a righteous struggle against imperialist hegemony. He hasn't seen real hegemony yet.

No, what is called for isn't another round of apologies to anyone. They are useless to our friends and laughed at by our enemies. And those who would rather simply be left alone know that the current trends are far less likely to allow it than the "dark" days of Bush.
