Don’t want to be picky but the Divine Right of Kings did not enter Europe until the Reformation and the 17th century. It is a heresy and was not long lived. In the 14th century and earlier serfs and everyone else operated under a Res publica christiana with two spheres. The Holy Roman Emperor was crowned by the Pope but was selected by 7 electors—4 lay and 3 spiritual. The medieval system was a hierarchal maze of rights, obligations and loyalties which kept lower levels distant from higher ones. The rise of the state spoiled all that. Only after all the mediating forces had been swept away (by the French Revolution for instance) could large standing armies be maintained and a country mobilized in service to one leader.

I always appreciate the education and knowledge available on FR. My inner pedant loves to learn facts.

What I was trying to convey was that in the 21st century West, people do not accept that they must submit just because a ruler lost a war. We are not chattel that become the spoils of war. While the codified Divine Right of Kings may not have been historically accurate in my original post’s context, the average person had little concept of real rebellion against the Rulers and the Church and less means by which to effect it. That is no longer true.

I believe that the Islamists can try as hard as they might to force an Islamist supremacy upon the West today and that they will fail. Even if they could get Halle Berry or Madonna or someone else famous to publicly don the hijab and declare themselves Muslim, it would not work to convert a nation, let alone the Anglosphere. It would, instead bring contempt and outright hatred upon that celebrity.

I believe that while the right-wing in Britain has fascist aspects and while racism is a part of their message (to bring this back to the thread topic), those factions are going to energize more Brits against subjugation than the Progressives, in conjunction with the Muslims, could dream of.
