NJ Gov. Christie Clashes with Teacher at Town Hall
The Blaze ^ | September 10, 2010 | SeekTheTruth

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is known for telling it like he sees it. At a town hall meeting in Raritan, NJ, he made sure to bolster that reputation. The fireworks start in the beginning but be sure to listen to the video clip below.  Governor Christie explains how the teacher‘s union in the state refused to compromise to save the state’s crucial education dollars.  Listen and see why I love Governor Chris Christie!

When I look at him, I always ask myself, “Are we looking at a future President of the United States?”

I'd like him to be our President too, but he's already unequivocally said he doesn't want that gig.

I’m always amazed at how all those Democrat geniuses love to use the expression “you know” three times in every sentence.

They took it from Hillary's playbook. Although, I sense, someone in her campaign corrected it as we heard less and less of it toward the end.

Teacher: "How are we gonna pay for... programs?"

Teacher: "How are we gonna pay for... programs....like rain forest field trips, Kwanzaa decorations, copies of Al Gore's film, Neighborhood Watch programs to turn in people who don't recycle, unicorns, skittles...?"

The teahcers get free health care for life. A few hundred for supplies is nothing.

Maybe not to you.

And in my state teachers don't get free health care for life. In NJ, presumably teachers don't get a choice. Maybe they'd rather take a real benefits cut, manage their own health care expense, and have some extra salary or stipend for supplies. But they don't get that choice.

The reason the issue is an agonizing one for many teachers is that since it's out of pocket, they have to choose between bills coming due and helping their students. Sure, especially in NJ there may be a fair number of teachers sitting pretty who could just cut back one latte a week, but every teacher isn't a big bad overpaid union flack.

In general, states and school districts allocate money for what they think schools need, and then teachers have to go out and buy what they actually need. It would be a winning conservative issue to empower teachers to have more control over spending priorities and put tax dollars to better use.

Hate to burst your bubble on Christie. Standing up to Teachers Unions is very courageous /sarc/

But standing up to radical Islam and to leftists in your own party is what makes a President. Christie has no such qualities. But the New York Slimes will love him, because he is not....Sarah Palin.

AMEN!!!!!!!

I am so tired of the argument “we pay for some supplies out of my own pocket”. My goodness - that teacher gets free or greatly reduced premiums for her healthcare. Tell you what - reduce my healthcare premiums that are about to skyrocket under Obamacare and I will spend $500 per year buying my own supplies. I will take that trade any day...

He's not a President. He's a Governor.

So you're bitter he endorsed Mike Castle. Who cares? He's doing a good job for New Jersey.

That was the first time I've been truly impressed by a politician in a long time.

While Christie is better than Corzine, that's not saying much.

I'd be a lot more impressed if he recognized the problems caused in NJ by the infestation of illegal aliens, if in his budget school districts in which students perform well were not penalized more than they already were regarding state aid, school districts in which students perform poorly were not rewarded more than they already were with state aid, if entitlement programs were not expanded, if he vetoed NJ's version of cap and trade, if he dismantled some of the new state departments started under Corzine. FYI, Illegal aliens cost NJ $3.7 billion per year (up from 2.1 billion and rising), have resulted in many hospitals closing, etc.

And the fact that a conservative with core beliefs to base all issue positions on

can speak the absolute truth about what he believes

really makes libs mad because they know they CAN’T be honest. Their ideology comes from their ideological “father”.

Union contracts and pensions bankrupt one industry after another yet they refuse to make any sacrifice, any, and then whine and cry when the industry they work folds under the financial pressure.

The NJ teachers could raise funds by sponsoring a “You Know” off between HRC and Caroline Kennedy.

If I only voted for people who share my views I wouldn’t vote. I could come up with a list of objections as long as my arm for any politician I can name.

What I’m talking about is a person who you can talk to, who has a position based on an honest difference of opinion. When it comes down to the wire I might not support him over some (not all) of the things you mention, but if we’re gonna get anywhere in this country it won’t be by picking off the people who might be able to get out of this mess we’re in over issues which, if the whole system collapses, won’t mean very much.

I am so tired of the argument “we pay for some supplies out of my own pocket”. My goodness - that teacher gets free or greatly reduced premiums for her healthcare.

You may not be aware of this, but you can't use a health insurance card to purchase school supplies.

Teachers don't get to choose on compensation -- low salary with generous benefits.

Tell you what - reduce my healthcare premiums that are about to skyrocket under Obamacare and I will spend $500 per year buying my own supplies. I will take that trade any day...

Okay, your wish is granted. I'll take $5,000 (or whatever) from your salary to pay for increased benefits. Now go spend $500 for supplies. Now you're down $5500 and the state is managing your health care cost. Congratulations! The difference between you and teachers is that you just ASKED to be paid like a socialist.

No wonder those vicious jackals want people to pray for his death. That’s the only way they’ll ever be able to defeat him.
