Let's assume the article is correct and his family came here legally. He made two huge mistakes. First, was never getting his citizenship. If he was a naturalized citizen he couldn't be deported. Second, he committed a crime while he was an LPR. That is grounds for deportation and always has been.

This guy and his family were just plain lazy when it came to their immigration status. He should have been working on his citizenship a long time ago. Instead he only got his green card when he was 22. What were he and his family doing the other 19 years?

Obviously, this situation is entirely of his own making. The point is that ICE makes him, a legal resident alien, a higher priority than those that came here illegally.
