that his budget director is going to come in and save us all now is laughable As I said, Daniels left early in Bush's tenure.
The proof would be in what Daniels has done as a chief executive on his own and that proof during this recession is darn solid.
To: Siena Dreaming
He’s a big government, pro-amnesty Republican and managing Indiana’s finances doesn’t change that.
To: 9YearLurker
Hes a big government What he's doing in Indiana does not reflect that.

I don’t want to be in a position to choose the lesser of two evils again. Where oh where is the spirit of Ronaldus Maximus please come to the podium NOW!

Reagan was a great President during the Cold War He was the Man for the time.
Russia was the biggie back then. Reagan had what it took because of his background fighting the communists in Hollywood and his experiences with GE. But right now we may need someone slightly different. Health care, for example, is now at the fore but wasn't the issue back in the 80's.
Someone like Daniels would focus like a radar on healthcare and other entitlements and would do a great job IMO.
I'm not saying I'd vote for him yet...there's more than one good candidate out there and there may even be a dark horse out there yet to appear. But I don't consider Daniels an enemy-RINO and think he will be an asset either in high office or as an important advisor to the Repub Pres '12.

Mitch Daniels is another “RINO in waiting” too ready to capitulate on Conservative principles and step across the aisle to work with ‘rats. A Daniels candidacy? No, thanks.

Right, but what he’s doing in IN right now is in the current environment with an eye on his presidential campaign. Doesn’t count, for me.

Hey, Mitch, why don’t we call a truce on the budget issues? Those trillions in debt won’t hurt us that much. Let’s go on to more important issues than socialism and big government.
To: 9YearLurker
Right, but what hes doing in IN right now is in the current environment with an eye on his presidential campaign You could say that about any Gov. who ends up running for President (i.e. Palin, Bush, Reagan, Clinton).
Fact is, though, that Governors are often looked to for this reason...they have executive experience and governing skills.

Such a person exists today.
So you are pushing Tim Tebow? You haven't said anything of significance in your post. Give me your suggestions.

He had a great Red Menace line, thats about it.
FN Rubbish. That was one of the best speeches I heard since Ronald Reagan. Let me know your suggestions? Who do you support? Who is more articulate than Daniels? Who has a better track record? Give me that person.

Mitch also has the charisma of a used kitchen sponge. Which is why he should hope that Palin picks him for her ticket: she’s got enough charisma for both of them.
To: snowrip
CPAC is for RINOs, and so is Mitch Daniels.
Based upon what? Give me a reason you call him a RINO? State some facts! Your post is moronic.

Then give me your candidate of a list of candidates? Who has a better shot than Daniels? Who has a better background? Who is more articulate? Who has better credentials? How do you know he's a RINO? Have you looked at his record in Indiana. By all accounts he's been an excellent governor. He's a serious guy. The only negative I can see is that he's follically challenged and this will make a difference with the trivial voter. And there are millions of them. No, at this time, and this may change, I haven't seen anyone I like more than this guy.

Daniels first act as gov was to de-certify the UAW as the representative of state employees. The UAW was brought in by Evan Bayh who paid them off with lottery / casino $$ and turned them into a stout campaign / lobbying force. It took 16 years for that party to finally end with the election of Daniels in Nov 2004.
That took a lot of b@lls in a state heavily populated with union members in the manufacturing industry. Also gradually the state legislature has been improved the last 6 years with Republicans finally having control of both branches.
Daniels wouldn’t be my first pick, but Pence isn’t running, so he’d get my vote. Indiana is certainly the best run of the rust belt states.
