Why hasn’t the EPA put a stop to this? People are thriving. Capitalism is booming. There are jobs there. Where’s the “We’re from the government and we’re here to help”?
A big part of ND’s success involves that state-owned bank. Public banking is one of a small handful of issues which conservatives and republicans need to be on top of in the near term.
Go north young man.
Is it because of Obama's so-called 'Stimulus' bill?
Just last year, they replaced two of the three Democrats in their congressional delegation. The last one, Comrade Conrad, has already announced he will not be running for re-election.
I’d like to move there if I could get a job first...any thoughts?
Good for them!
On the flip side, you have to live where the wintertime temperatures are colder than a welldigging witch’s brass monkey bra, so no thanks. :)
Not to be a party pooper, but is any of this due to a transfer of wealth from taxpayers to farmers?
Good, Short, article, well worth your time.
In North Dakota, by contrast, even the state's Democratssuch as Sen. Kent Conrad and former Sen. Byron Dorgantend to be pro-oil. The industry services the old-fashioned liberal goal of making middle-class constituents wealthier.
Obie and the Washington progs need to step in and put a stop to this PRONTO!!
We need to have a managed decline don'tcha' know.
That's very old fashioned as the latest liberal trend is to rob everyone and give it to the non-working.
Answer: not run by Democrats
Just wanted to add one minor point..Most economists consider anything under 4% as effectively ZERO unemployment..because there are always a certain number of people, who, for various reasons NOT related to economic conditions, are out of work at any one time..
Nobody wants to mention ND’s homogeneous population as a reason for their success. Let’s just say when there’s no illegals and no inner-city thugs you’re bound to be successful.
Hmmm. I’ve never been there but the Yunker side of my family is from ND. Used to have a big farm up there somewhere, now it’s a children’s museum. Maybe I need to get back in touch with my roots. Illinois is sure going down the tubes.
I live in Alaska, I can only work from april til november.
Starting this late fall I am taking on a seasonal job in Australia. 19 years of Alaska winters is getting old, and Oz welcomes skilled workers, and since I’m approaching retirement age they have a better economy for that.
The future in America I would bet is a lovely classical in an Imax theater and then off to the soylent grinders.
North Dakota’s prosperity need not be limited to their state.
This portion of the article says it all :
What accounts for the state’s success? Dakotans didn’t bet the farm, so to speak, on solar cells, high-density housing or high-speed rail. Taxes are moderatethe state ranks near the middle in terms of tax per capita, according to the Tax Foundationand North Dakota is a right-to-work state, which makes it attractive to new employers, especially in manufacturing. But the state’s real key to success is doing the first things firstsuch as producing energy, food and specialized manufactured goods for which there is a growing, world-wide market. This is what creates the employment and wealth that can support environmental protection and higher education.
I don’t see why such sensible policies can’t be applied to such states as Ohio or Pennsylvania.
I was walking down a street in Fargo one night when I was jumped by a band of thugs. They all had those brass helmets with horns on them. “We’re the Norskis and we want your lutefisk!” One of them held a herring to my throat. I peed just a little bit.
