A Chilling Study in Cause and Effect - Finding the true cause of the Kandahar Riots
Illinois Review ^ | April 3, 2011 A.D. | John F. Di Leo

In a small town in Florida on March 20, the pastor of a small church held a public event: burning a koran for his audience and a video camera. His American Christian audience reacted as one would expect from them: they were happy to be a part of this provocative event; they returned to their homes and jobs after the service, and went on with their lives.

The world continued to turn… nobody of substance cared about Pastor Jones’ latest attempt at news coverage… until almost two weeks later, when it made the news half a planet away, in Afghanistan.

The president of Afghanistan denounced the event; imams and mullahs hammered it in their mosques. Their Afghan muslim audience reacted as one would expect from them: they streamed out into the streets, hunting down foreigners, beating hundreds of UN aides, NATO staffers, contractors, travelers, journalists, soldiers… rioting in the streets, burning the shops in their own neighborhoods, destroying property, attacking innocent bystanders. At least a hundred injuries and dozens of killings were confirmed by the second day of the riots.

In a world in which thousands die tragically every day – from starvation to murder, from disease and neglect – these events might not seem particularly newsworthy. When aren’t there riots in that part of the world? When aren’t innocents killed? It happens every day.

Maybe if just once somebody would mow down the mother f*ckers when they rampage, it won’t happen again, even if 10,000 Korans were burned.

The problem is they don’t fear us.

Your kind of reasoning fits right in with the animals.

No, they were caused by satan pitching a fit and passing it on to his minions.

Yup. We saved the Muzzies in Kosovo and they rewarded us with 9/11.

Who knows. Maybe we didn't apologize enough.

You don’t cover yourself with blood and jump in the shark pool. Minister Moron makes our job in Afghanistan much more difficult with such stunts. Our soldiers pay with their lives it isn’t some childish game.

My moral compass points to the FACT that Christ would never approve of such things. He believed in treating people with respect no matter their religion or moral failings. I don’t remember him picking up any stones or leading the pack ready to kill.

Innocent people died because of Minister Moron’s publicity stunt.

We are obliged to make our soldiers’ jobs easier not complicate them with self-aggrandizing publicity stunts.

So your theory is to try and make the Islamics hate us even more and verify what they are told by their imans that the west in anti-Islam and trying to destroy their religion. Brilliant. Just brilliant.

Minister Moron is endangering our men and our mission for non-christian reasons. Is that his idea of loving his fellow man?

No, Minister Moron is provoking them to fly even MORE planes into buildings. Is he working in conjunction with Osama? Is he a terrorist?

You get the message out by understanding how Islam is different from Christianity and patiently explaining that difference to people from all walks of life.

Should he burn the Book of Mormon too? Or the Buddhist texts or the Homeric Hymns?

Fool. How could the Christian minister make Muslims kill? Did he hold a gun to their heads? No they kill because they are Muslims.

So our female soldiers go around with unprotected heads to make the barbarians happy? Not very smart on our part.

I wonder what would happen if we burn them in every city?

as has been done with every Bible discovered by muslims

We have a mission in Afghanistan and this sorry sack of shiite endangers it and all those serving our nation.

He is obviously a satanic moron and there is nothing Christian in these stunts, nothing.

Is he working in conjunction with OBL’s spring recruitment drive? Is he paid by the amount of blood shed?

Thatis so stupid a comment as to be insane.

Let me help. I SPIT on the Koran, and somebody in Afghanistan kills somebody else, netiher of wom I know. How is that my fault?

Muslims disrespect Christians and the Bibles everyday, yet how many are killed for it? Zero would be my guess.

But say I killed a Muslim over the fact. So I am innocent of any crime?

Or are you of the type that doesn’t concern itself with the defects and crimes of non-Western cultures because they were colonized or something?

“You get the message out by understanding how Islam is different from Christianity and patiently explaining that difference to people from all walks of life.”

That approach doesn’t seem to be working very well, at least for the people that count (i.e., political leaders).

“Should he burn the Book of Mormon too? Or the Buddhist texts or the Homeric Hymns?”

He could burn copies of those texts, but I’d expect the result of his efforts would be a big yawn...and I know it would be with the Book of Mormon (i.e., they have better things to do than run around like mad when someone burns their book).

...and that is his point.

Just what is our “mission” in Afghanistan, anyway?

My reasoning is simply asking “What Would Christ Do?”

And the answer is not even questionable. No one here has even claimed that this is a Christian act. That clearly proves that it is wrong.

Maybe you have forgotten the incident with the moneychangers??

Maybe you forgot the contemptuous terms with which he referred to the “scribes and Pharisees”

Christ wasn’t the milksop so many uninformed people take him to be.

There is no need to give these creeps any more reasons to resort to violence

I agree. So from now on, we're only going to say nice things about Islam here on FR.

Christ wouldn’t have cut off the head of a human being because somebody burned his favorite book.
