I am celebrating as well. There is no cause to celebrate for medico or with medico. If was from medico, there would be no cause to celebrate either, instead I would be ashamed of the medicans. medico <-— code name for mexico.

You're right, they do not celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Mexico. Although, they do have plenty of other good holidays. I am not sure, but I think they did make a big deal of it of it in the past, and the tradition lived on in California, even though, oddly, the event that the holiday celebrates occurred after California became part of the U.S. On May 5, 1862, the outnumbered Mexicans defeated a French army at the battle of Puebla, which was the only, single, time to my knowledge that a Mexican force has defeated a foreighn invader, even going back to the time of Hernando Cortez.

Im saving my celebrations for Siete de Junio, the day when the French (yes, the French) army took Mexico City. The Battle of Puebla on 5/5/1862 was just one winning battle on the way to losing the war by the Mexican army in the next year.

At the beginning of April, 1911, Porfirio Díaz, president of Mexico, was facing the collapse of his country. So in a last ditch effort to restore peace, he decided to host a great feast of the finest European cuisine that money could buy.

This was based on the chance discovery by one of his aides, who on a visit to London discovered that the mayonnaise produced by a new company, Hamker Foods of Feltham, Middlesex, was the tastiest, most delectable sauce ever invented. Delicious beyond description to the Mexican palate.

So he ordered tons of it to be shipped from Southampton to New York, and then by ice-filled boxcar to Mexico City. Price was no object.

But fate intervened, which forced Díaz to resign, and threw Mexico into chaos and civil war for a decade.

This was because the ship chosen to carry their precious cargo was none other than the RMS Titanic. So to this day, Mexicans have a holiday in memory of this tragedy.

Cinco de Mayo is NOT Mexican Independence day. In fact, it is not even celebrated in Mexico.

5 May is the anniversary of the Battle Of Puebla, where the local Mexican army, cobbled together, defeated a small branch of the French Army. There are some legends associated with it, but it wasn’t that big of a deal. In fact, the French came back shortly thereafter and kicked Mexico’s butt.

Gringos are the only people who celebrate 5 May. It was pushed by the beer companies because it can be pronounced by gringos.

Well they did gain their independance from the French, who held Mexico for a mere 3 days.

What’s to celebrate? Mexico doesn’t even have this as a holiday and I have been in Mexico a couple of times on cinco de Mayo.

Never seen it celebrated.

In fact, when you ask Mexican, while in Mexico, many have no idea what Cinco de Mayo is.

Oh, my favorite holiday! With all the little kids dressed up and begging for candy, and their moms and dads getting plastered and wife swapping while their teens drink up the dregs of their drinks, and...
