How about a very simple look at this .... There is not a single publicly owned transportation system in the country that operates in the black. They all lose money.

If the government wants to start a venture it should require 25% investment of private money. If private money cannot be rasied, then I don't want public money in it. It Warren Buffett won't invest in it, neither should we.

However, those who complain that public transit isn’t profitable often miss that point that roadways aren’t profitable either. In many places such as NYC, it’s cheaper to fund MTA than it would be to build the necessary roads to handle the traffic if everyone were to drive, even if it were possible to do so.
