Most other experts basically argue that Ryan is now done for.

Most other experts are completely blind to the titanic ground swell that is the tea party movement. They are focused in on a small patch of sand and the tsunami, 1/4 mile off in the summer of 2010, is now right behind them ready and crashing.

Ryan gets that. He is one of us.

I like Paul Ryan a lot, but am not sure this makes sense. If only one man has the ability to understand and fight for the Ryan budget, then it’s pretty well screwed, isn’t it?

As smart a guy as Krauthammer is, he still seems to think like a ruling class elitist most of the time, and I suspect he’s promoting Ryan because he’s scared to death that Palin, Cain, or Bachmann will run and upset his dear RINO friends inside the beltway.

Paul Ryan on Bailouts and Government Stimuli
-Voted YES on TARP (2008)
-Voted YES on Economic Stimulus HR 5140 (2008)
-Voted YES on $15B bailout for GM and Chrysler. (Dec 2008)
-Voted YES on $192B additional anti-recession stimulus spending. (Jul 2009)
[...]
Congressman Ryan supports the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, federal bailouts, increased federal involvement in education, unconstitutional and undeclared wars, Medicare Part D (a multi trillion dollar unfunded liability), stimulus spending, and foreign aid.

According to Michelle Malkin in 2009, “[Paul Ryan] gave one of the most hysterical speeches in the rush to pass TARP last fall; voted for the auto bailout; and voted with the Barney Frank-Nancy Pelosi AIG bonus-bashing stampede. Milwaukee blogger Nick Schweitzer wrote: ‘He ought to be apologizing for his previous votes, not pretending he was being responsible the entire time, but I don’t see one bit of regret for what he did previously. And I’ll be damned if I’m going to let him get away with it’.”

If this is what passes for a conservative voting record, then we are well and truly ******.

The response to the demagoguery should be easy.

The democrats who are criticizing Ryan’s idea for how we pay for health care for seniors are the same people who supported the plan for cutting $500 billion from Medicare to pay for Obamacare!

Sometimes Charles can be a pain in the ass.

absolutely

sometimes history calls on men to do things they may not have chosen otherwise

It is sobering and sad that Ryan does not have the inner fire to embrace this sacrifice

Most other experts basically argue that Ryan is now done for. Many ‘liberal’ blogs and newspapers have already declared him dead politically. However, is that true?

It might be true, but so what? Some things are more important than the political consequences: they have to be said. And even if people disagree with Ryan's specific recommendations, his analysis of the immense, extremely dangerous, underlying problem is spot-on.

And, more importantly, Ryan is also quite correct in stating that it will require Big Steps to properly address them. To simply duck and hide from them on the chance that there will be political consequences, is cowardice.

The fiscal mess is not entirely Obama's fault, but he and the Democrats in Congress have done far more than anybody else in history to make it worse.

This is an existential danger tou our country, and as such it must be made a central issue in the upcoming elections.

If Ryan ran, I’d be all in. Money, work, signs, editorials, everything. A Ryan candidacy would be a big roll of the dice, and I’d bet all my chips.
