It is more profitable right now to grow corn to be used to feed livestock and produce it to be used for ethanol. That is why the hoarding is going on, to push up the price. Some farmers believe they can make more money by raising it for those purposes rather than for human consumption. It is called Free Enterprise.

The Amish here get $4.00 a dozen ears. I never heard of field corn selling for that.
