Washtenaw County was the property tax king in Michigan when it comes to home owners, according to an analysis done by the Tax Foundation.

Washtenaw County had a median of $3,699 paid in property taxes on a home in a five-year average from 2005 to 2009. Washtenaw County was tied for 71st highest nationally with Delaware County in Pennsylvania.

The analysis includes property taxes paid by households on owner-occupied housing. The analysis didn’t include property taxes paid by businesses, renters and others. The data came from the 2005-2009 American Community Survey from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Oakland County was ranked 101st in the country. That county had a median of $3,338 paid in property taxes.

Macomb County was third highest in the state of Michigan. It ranked 207th nationally at $2,584 per home. Livingston County followed at 211th at $2,584 per home.

Ingham County rounded out the top five highest paying counties in Michigan at $2,529 per home. Ingham County ranked 227th nationally.

Hunterdon County in New Jersey ranked No. 1 in the nation, with a median of $8,216 paid. The Bethel Census Area in Alaska was ranked last at 2,922nd, with an average of $105 per home.

I’m where I am in far eastern Jackson county because it got me close to the better pay of Washtenaw county but out of reach of the taxation.
