You ssay you beleive in Jesus? Lots of people beleive in Jesus but will never make ti into the kingdom of heaven simply because they never get to the point where they kneel before Christ and say somethign to hte effect of “Jesus, I’m a sinner- Yes, me, I’m lost and goign to hell, and I fall at your feet and ask for mercy and salvation (which He’ll freely grant IF you are sincere about your lost condition and want Him to save you), I know
You died o nthe cross so that folks can have eternal salvation IF we sincerely ask for forgivenenss, and I ackowledge that without askign you to become my Lord and Master, I can not expect to Reign with You in heaven”

Have YOU ever done htis? I’m not talking about having siome preist ‘pray for you’ or ‘absolve you of sins’ through ‘confession’- I’m talking about approaching Christ personally, alone, and without anty pretenses?

Again, lots of people ‘beleive’ that Christ lived, and even that He is the Son of God, but they never humble themslevwes as the lost sinners that htey are before the Almighty Christ and take responsibility for being a sinner- it’s too humbling for them to do, but I can assure you they are missing out on a truly great life of redemtion by refusing to take that final step toward salvation.

The bible talks about apostates- those hwo know all there is to know about hte faith, who ‘pray’ (although hteir prayers are not received By Christ because they aren’;t truly saved), who take communion, who hold office in churches etc- but who never took that final step of humbling themselves before God Almighty to admit that they are losti n sin and NEED Christ and ?CHrist alone to save them- they would rather ‘work hteir way to heaven’ because THEY then feel that THEY are in control of their destiny, and that they don’t need someone else to save them- The bible is quite clear, these type folks will never see the kingdom of heaven even htough by all outward appearances, they ‘seem’ to be saved- their hearts have never been surrendered over to Christ becuase they found the process- the final step- too humbling.

You want ‘basic Christianity’? Well, that’
s it- it’s as basic as you get- You aren’;t saved by goign to church, you don’t becoem ‘more religious’ by goign to church ior ‘doing good deeds’- Christ and Christ alone is the basis of salvation and Christianity-

Get alone before God- Really alone- one on one- Bear your soul to Him and Ask for forgiveness and Salvation and He will surely grant You salvation- then you’ll be a ‘basic Christian’, once and for all- and where you go from there is up to you But I assure you that having the weight of sin lifted off YOUR shoulders, and placved on Christ’s shoulders is worth more than it’s weight in gold- Being absolved, through Christ alone, of all sin, past present and future, will lift that heavy burden off you once and for all- stop carrying it around htinking you can ‘lighten thel oad’ by doing good, goign to church etc- Just give it over to Christ by admitting you’re lost (assuming you’ve never taken this step of course) and need Him to save you from sin and eternal damnation- Stop tryign to earn your way to heaven- God tells us flat oyut in His word those that do try to earn hteir way to heaven ,and who never humbled themselves before Him, will be lost forever-

Amen Brother Ben-

Aside from accepting Christ as your Lord and Saviour and following the Ten Commandments, it certainly is.

Read up on Paul’s advice on eating meat offered to idols. His advice was basically having consideration for your fellow man and to eat it, if you felt free to do so and to not, if you didn’t feel free to do so.

It doesn't matter. If a single person who reads this thread turns to Christ then it's job has been accomplished. No?

With all due respect, I believe this was an attempt to start a religious denominational war.

Catholics flaming Protestants, vice versa, all the while he sits back and laughs about it.

When a new FReeper's very first post is a provocative vanity, I'm always suspicious.

In his/her defense, though, all your first responses are screened for a period of time before they are released by the mods.

Maybe this is happening.

Or maybe he's a troll out fishing for dissension...

First of all, if you were raised Catholic, you ARE a Christian.

Second of all, there is only one religion with all the marks of Christ’s Church and that is the Roman Catholic Church. If you love Christ, why would you want to go with anything that is less in any way than the true Church that Christ really started?

Third, you may not be fully informed about the true nature of the Catholic Church. You owe it to yourself to go find out before you turn your back on it.

Fourth, being Catholic is the toughest, most beautiful and mysterious, and most spiritual of all religions. Catholicism is the Chuck Norris of religions. If you are just looking for something weaker and easier, you can find plenty of Catholic-lite religions out there. But why would you want to? Catholicism is the most Christian of all Christian faiths.

I like the Baptists, myself, although as each church is self-governing, as are county and state associations, and denominations, you have to pick your local church carefully.

Some are fairly liberal, moderates they like to call themselves, but generally you get more of the true Gospel in them than in mainline churches.

Or such is my opinion, anyway. Pray and study and observe. The Holy Spirit will show you where you should be.

[[I smell troll with this poster]]

Pwehaps, but whatevwer, God works in mysterious ways, and what someone meant for evil can and WILL be turned around by God for good- so while someone might come on here thinking they are ‘outwitting’ ‘stupid Christians’ God has control over that persona whether they realize it or not, and will use what that person meant for evil for His Honor and glory- someone might stumble across this thread who is truly searching, and come to understand what a great and selfless sacrifice Christ madfe, and be humbled enough to finally kneel before Christ and ask for salvation- or, maybe someone may have a spark ignited that later in life leads them to salvation as they remember back on this htread and others like it- The Spirit listeth where it will, not where we say He must work :)

I meant to tell you that the GOSPEL, that is the GOOD NEWS of WHO the Lord Jesus Christ is and WHAT He came to do [DIE FOR OUR SINS], is in 1 Corinthians 15:1-11. If this passage describes what you believe in your heart, then you are truly saved, born-again by the Spirit—a Christian. To grow, you must get into the Word of God and He will work in your life.

May the Lord bless you.

Catholicism is basic christianity. Just go to Mass and meet with your priest. He will help you get back to basics.

Check out Calvary Chapel. They are all over the US and they study the Bible verse by verse, book by book. You’ll learn more here about God, Jesus and the Bible than anywhere .

I’ll pray for your walk.

Why did you leave the Church?

What was it that made you feel you weren’t a Christian?

Also, how “raised in the Catholic Church” were you? Did your parents just have you baptized, or did they actually go to Mass and believe the Faith?

Or did the Church object to something you wanted to do and you left for that reason?

And what has made you now decide that you want to be “Christian”?

I would say that you should just go to different churches and check them out. Include Catholic and Orthodox churches along with the Protestant churches (since Protestantism has a million forms and going to one is not the same as going to be the same as another) and see what you think.

And, of course, pray and ask God to help you. You do need to be part of a Christian community. But make sure you don’t go into something that is some independent flake group. A lot of times “seekers” like you get caught up in things like television ministries or private chapels, and then once the charismatic leader crashes and burns, their faith is gone, too.

John 3:16 basically covers it.
Jesus told the adultress that was to be stoned, “Go and sin no more.”
That’s as basic as you can get.........

The Church is the institution of Christ. Churches of any variety are the institutions of man. That there are disagreements among the churches (denominational, sects, etc.) is evidence that these churches are not following the Word of God in the Person of Jesus Christ and continued by the grace of the Holy Spirit.

Raised Catholic? Ask yourself what is it/was it that caused you to move away from that particular flavor of church. Baptist? Presbyterian? Lutheran? Mennonite? Ask yourself what these sects bring you. Are you joining a church to satisfy the need for fellowship? Or to get closer to God? Or perhaps because of a need to join a church because that’s what Christians do.

Basically, seek the answer from within. Don’t trust others, who try to convince you to join their particular “flavor” of religion.

In my many adventures into the religious arena, I’ve asked myself the above questions.

My conclusion: If I was stranded on an island all alone, I wouldn’t be able to nor need to belong to any church other than The Church.

Your humility and desire to grow are both touching and convicting. If you belong to a bible-believing church, check if they have classes on discipleship. Also, here's a book that might be helpful. I will keep you in my prayers.
