Thanks...I’ve little doubt Manchin will be reelected and probably have the seat for as long as he wants it, is that the general feeling in WV?
Manchin’s wife was appointed vice president of the state board of education last week. Recently as one of the members of that board she voted to have a county school system taken over. She took the opportunity to bitch at the county superintendent who was at the state meeting.
The odd thing is the county’s drop out rate of 18% is better than the state rate of 25%. The kids are scoring higher than the state average on the tests. And the county has never had financial issues.
The audit that was the basis for the takeover was flawed. The county board of education and the new incoming superintendent were not given the opportunity to fix any problems like other counties have been in the past.
Conjecture is that the big frog in that county pond called Manchin to put the take over in motion for political reason locally.
I’s like to see Manchin beat. Although he’s a Democrat he’s really more of a RINO. One saving grace is that he will work against the EPA to protect the coal industry. I’m guessing that means Senate Democrats won’t subject him to any heavy lifting to support unpopular causes until he’s reelected.
Back to your original question, Manchin is walking a tight rope unitl that election. I’d say he’s got a good shot at reelection if he doesn’t get fouled by controversy in the state between now and the election.
