You’re correct. “The Night of the Long Knives’’, June 30, 1934.

So he was sort of a misfit/nerd before becoming a community
organizer and graduating to politics? sounds familiar.

Fascism is the softer sell. It gives you the pretense of private ownership. Yes, you can own your own factory but we(the state) are going to control the production process and tell how much you must pay your ‘’workers’’ and how much you can pay yourself. Yes you can own your own home but we’re going to tell you how you can live in it. What setting to put your thermostat to.(sound familiar, like Mr. “Hope ‘n’ Change?) Communism makes no pretense of private ownership, the state owns everything and you do what we tell you. What the two system share primarily is there is no private ownership of one’s thoughts, writings or speech.

What are you talking about? Karl Marx was a vicious anti-Semite who referred to Jews in his 1843 book “On the Jewish Question” as “self-interested hucksters who should be annihilated”. I have also read that Hitler praised Marx in his autobiography, ‘Mein Kampf’.

Alois Schicklgruber was the name of Hitler’s father before he changed it, before Adolph Hitler was born. Adolph Hitler’s name was never Schicklgruber, and it was never Alois. Hitler’s older brother, who lived until 1952, was Alois.

I’ve always thought that “socialist” is a broad term describing various commonly related idealogies

International Socialists......Communists
National Socialists........... Nazi/fascists
Utopian Socialists........... Fabians
ect...........

Any way you slice it, they all come from the same ill-baked loafs of bread kneaded and baked in the bakery run by Karl Marx.......

Not a whole lot of documentation there. Sources, please?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but not their own facts.
Hitler was left money by his father?
Male Prostitute?
Claims such as that should have cites, verifiable footnotes.

Oh, for goodness sake - the fascists were nationalist and the communist internationalist. They hated each other’s guts

True, but they were both sosialists

Nazis and Marxists are natural allies. Just look at the OWS crowds around the country.

Biggest difference between Soviet style Marxism and Nazi-ism is that the commies wanted all nations to adopt Marxism. The Nazis wanted all nations to be ruled by Nazis, especially Germanic citizens in that country.

Bottom line: they advocated the state control (Nazis) or own (Marxists) the means of production.

Pretty hard to discuss the evolution of Hitler without
mentioning the influence Benito Mussolini had on him.
Mussolini was a socialist who evolved into a national
socialist as opposed to a communist. The commies tended
to try to organize internationally while Mussolini
drifted toward nationalism. Hitler liked that idea
and developed his political self along those lines.

We’ve always been taught that National Socialism and
Communism are polar opposites. I have never believed
that is true because we have also been taught that
free market capitalism is also the opposite of com-
munism and I know that free market capitalism
and national socialism have almost nothing in
common.

From what I’ve seen Communists of any kind will accept inheritances in capitalist societies because that increases their potential influence in society.

Bingo. I don't sleep at night when I think of Obama's 'potential' to really go to the dark side. Lots of paths open for him to do so - you name the scenario. Let's just hope there are enough checks and balances in Washington D.C. and enough people that are really keeping a close eye on him, e.g., the Pentagon, NSA, maybe the saner minds at the FBI. I see Obama as a national security risk that bears close watch. Let's hope it is happening.

I've often wondered if Ollie North or other beltway patriots who 'know the system in the District' have taken on this task.

I can't believe in my lifetime I would ever worry about a sitting president is this way, but I do. . . I might add I used to worry about the Clintons, but nothing like Obama.

Hitler had inherited money from his late father and as a result he never had to work.

Nazi Party

The National Socialist German Workers' Party (German: Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, abbreviated NSDAP), commonly known in English as the Nazi Party (from the German Nazi, abbreviated from the pronunciation of Nationalsozialist[5]), was a political party in Germany between 1919 and 1945. It was known as the German Workers' Party (DAP) prior to a change of name in 1920.

National Health Care: Medicine in Germany 1918-1945 [Nazi health care]
Does the Modern Bureaucratization of Medicine Risk a Return to the Horrors of National Socialist Medicine?

by Marc S. Micozzi M.D.

Today we are concerned about issues such as doctor-assisted suicide, abortion, the use of fetal tissue, genetic screening, birth control and sterilization, health-care rationing and the ethics of medical research on animals and humans. These subjects are major challenges in both ethics and economics at the end of the twentieth century. But at the beginning of the twentieth century the desire to create a more scientific medical practice and research had already raised the issues of euthanasia, eugenics, and medical experimentation on human subjects. In addition, the increasing involvement of the German government in medical care and funding medical research established the government-medical complex that the National Socialists later used to execute their extermination policies. ..."

Socialists are not communists.

Communist Party USA chairmen, Gus Hall (former) and Sam Webb (current) disagree with you...

Because the second word in NAZI is SOCIALIST.

Other writers have gone into this topic in more detail than this one. There is a good chance that Hitler was for a while a communist simply because he could find no better ideological home.

Basically, in the early 20th century, if you were a nationalist who believed in socialism, marxist-leninist style Communism would not have been a good fit. because it was a very internationalist ideology.

If you were a socialist, a nationalist and a virulent anti-semite, Marxist-Leninist style socialism became an even poorer fit. What you needed was national socialism.

I never could understand why the Nazis were considered as an extreme right wing organization and the Communist Party is an extreme left wing group.

Because the left said that's the way it is and because the left controls the media and intelligencia, they can get away with it.

Agree. The author is either lazy or lacking depth but considerably more info about this topic supporting the authors claim is out there.
