Because the minute you accept this Big Invisible Forever Creature, your attention is diverted from real life. It leads to the next question: Why? What does it want? Now you are on the path to Conjecture Land, and you might as well become obsessed with Harry Potter for all the good it will do you. Your mind has found a fun and mystical escape. Like people who start playing with Sims or get into World of Warcraft. You aren't living in this world anymore.

That in and of itself isn't my problem. Most people are deep in a Matrix of their own building. If they can step into reality long enough to do their job and pay attention while they're driving, it doesn't much matter. But those who like to go around telling others that they are going to Hell unless they believe in Jesus, Mohammed, or that Mormon guy, well, that's irritating. It's also a mild mental illness, far as I can tell.

Every life other than our own is conjecture land, APLady.

We use conjecture, assumption, and opinion every day of our lives. The issue is what backs it up. I have facts that back up my assumptions (beliefs) about God that are sufficient for me to say the scale has been tipped in this or that direction.

I suspect you operate the same way, and have just not had your scales tipped in the same direction.

Why do I value the facts I use more than you do those same facts?

I think it's because the Unseen Hand has guided me in that direction, but has not done so (yet?) with you.

You must be surrounded by people with small minds in your life. It is quite common to consider the possibility of God's existence and also to be quite grounded in real life. The only people who seem to have a problem with conceptualizing this, are uber-volcal atheists, at least in my observation.

That in and of itself isn't my problem. Most people are deep in a Matrix of their own building. And yet here you are, on a forum that is unabashedly pro-God (see Jim's founding statement), going out of your way in an attempt to ridicule believers. One could even assert you are proselytizing non-belief. Could that not be equally due to a mild mental illness?

“But those who like to go around telling others that they are going to Hell unless they believe in Jesus, Mohammed, or that Mormon guy, well, that’s irritating. It’s also a mild mental illness, far as I can tell.”

So why should this be “irritating” to you? Is there a higher truth that you are aware of, that should we all subordinate ourselves to this truth, then there would be no more trouble in the world? How is life on your uncrowded pumpkin...is Samuel Clemens your companion there?

Are you more iritated with the one who tells you that you might be going to hell, if he or she comes across as being totally concerned for your well being or are you cross with the one who seems to have a kind of “smugness” about them? Then again, can you even tell the difference between their smugness or your own? Projection can be a mental aberration too!
