He apparently disagreed with Dont Ask Dont Tell, a policy that was later overturned via the political process Manning had sworn an oath to defend. Why do so many people apparently believe that "don't ask don't tell" was a restrictive policy that forbid gays in the military from being open about their sex life? Prior to that policy, a closet gay who was discovered would be discharged; DADT represented an increase in tolerance, compared to the rules that preceded it.
