I have heard that 3 gal/day/pers number before, but I have to tell you, it is crap.
Sorry. I have to take exception to you here. I worked as a sub for ARAMCO in Kingdom for 5 years. The recommendation was 5 gallons a day per person. I did 4 gallons myself. Granted, interior temps reached 140F, but that was my mileage. Three (3) gallons is a safe number. There is nothing wrong with the margin. YMMV.
