Now that I have read the entire thread...

At home, I used to leave my Ruger P90 with no round chambered. It wasn’t unsafe to carry it with a round chambered - the trigger pull to fire the first round was the same as a revolver. But for me, in MY house, I did not. I practiced racking it.

Eventually, my love of revolvers took over. I keep the guns on top of 6’ furniture, and none of the kids we have around now could reach them. Since we are at the grandparent stage, I don’t have to worry about 24/7 kids. When I carry, a 10 lb trigger pull is what keeps the guns safe. The trigger pull on my P90, since sold, was 12 lbs, IIRC.

Thanks Mr. Rogers,

I still am a little stunned at the responses I got when I relayed my experience with guns. I never claimed to be an expert. I grew up in the country and had BB guns shortly after walking and at 6, 7, 8 or 9 I was given a .22 short single bolt wood frame that my dad had when he was a kid. I put holes in too many things. My favorite was hitting an old turning plow disk and then going and looking at the pattern of the splat in the rust.

I sunk all kinds of stuff in mud holes and killed a lot of ants and bumble bees with both the BB guns and .22. I experienced ricochets from bbs that nearly put my eye out and hurt like crazy. For a hard headed and slow kid, the lesson was priceless. I also put a .22 long through the ceiling of my parents home while messing with a revolver. Nobody was home. It scared the hell out of me and I have never been cavaliering with guns again. I am blessed that it didn’t go through my skull.

I used a 30-30 Winchester with the cool Western style hand cock through my teens and some other .22s and shotguns.

I never declared myself an expert, but I grew up around guns and I respect them. I don’t know all the terminology, I didn’t serve in the military (I wish I had), but I can hit a broad side of a barn.

I seriously doubt I would have any issue with tunnel vision in a bad situation. But, maybe, I would. Fortunately, I have not been in that situation, and I hope I never will.
