I had the displeasure of being in the same wedding party as Maher over the course of a long weekend in NYC years ago. He's intelligent and sharp, but uses those gifts for bad purposes. He insulted waitresses, stiffed people on tips, just generally made a total obnoxious asshat of himself all weekend. He didn't look to any of his companions to see if they were on board with his "brand" of humor. I believe he will do or say anything to make
himself laugh.
He is his own god.
