Old school dungeon crawler: Legend of Grimrock
Steam ^ | 4/18/2012 | Blackshark

Posted on 04/18/2012 7:29:22 PM PDT by Black_Shark

Hey all you old school gamers,

From posts here and there I have gathered that there are quite a few PC gamers on FR. Seeing as the average age of most FR posters is in the mid 30's to mid 40's, it would make sense that at least some of you "cut your teeth" on old school dungeon crawlers such as Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder, etc.

I am here to tell you of a brand new dungeon crawler produced by Almost Human, a finnish studio. It has all the old school feel with modern graphics and was 8.5/10 by IGN and has excellent reviews from other sites as well. I have been enraptured with it the past few days and thought I'd share it with the community.

Oh, they are also releasing extensive modding tools for free to the community! :D

The best part? It's only $14.99.

- Blackshark

P.S. If you don;t use/like steam you can download it from their site www.grimrock.net and click "Buy".

I just realized my post really did sound like I was selling software... I’ve spent way too much time on the business major floor of my college. Need to spend less time there more time on econ floor obviously so I can write more compactly!

Sorry if I gave off the wrong impression with the post!

I’g guess around 60ish average (46 here). I seem to talk with/see people around my age or older. Mostly older. There are some young’uns to be sure though.

I am still playing Ultima-On-line even after almost 15 years the game came on line. It is by far the most complex game ever made.

If you are carrying a lantern then you probably are:)

Thanks for the laugh. In this depressing political climate, laughs are few and far between.

I found it in general and well general means .... well ... general. So I found it generally interesting and it sent me looking it up.

So I don’t know why you would be concerned something like this showed up in free republic under the general section.

You’re not one of those that believes RPG gamers are satanic worshippers are you?

I’m not a huge fan of online games due to the fact that WoW took over my life. I founded and ran a 300+ member raiding guild for over a year before quitting cold turkey and vowed to never return to online gaming!

On the other hand, games with massive modding communities are a whole nother story. I have put well over 1000+ hours into The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and am still actively playing it. Grimrock, once the modding scene kicks in, looks to be the same along with Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (hopefully, if not it’s still a great game).

Yes, I have no life outside of school and games. My girlfriend reminds me daily of that :D

Haha, my gaming exp. started with TES III: Morrowind and Grimrock had me looking up Dungeon Master, EOTB, etc.

This thread is giving me an excellent education in the history of PC gaming!

As long as we’re `fessing up, I play BattleTanx (1999) on a Nintendo 64 occasionally when I feel the need to blow stuff up.

He wasn’t even born when those games were made ;)

Side note - For the console gamers out there, look into the PS2/3 games Xenosaga (and Xenogears for the PS1), the “Tales of XXXXXX” games and the JRPG Shin Begemi Tensi Persona series.

VERY in dept plotlines and hundreds of hours of entertainment at used game prices.

Side note 2: I often get into discussions with people on gaming and how it’s for kids. Funny when it’s usually with people who grew up on them, stopped at Nintendo 8 bit and have no idea what an Elder Scrolls type game actually is.

Imagine the dollar per hour entertainment value alone. But what’s really funny to me is that these same people think nothing of reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy/ watching the Star Wars series.

Kid stuff indeed ;)

I remember playing text based games via cassette drive on my tandy trs-80 many, many moons ago.

Also played Wizardry on something at some point in time.

Currently playing The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition and Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion beta on PC as well as Dark Souls on ps3.

Never too old for video games.

I’ll check this out on Steam, ty for the tip, saw pics of this the other day and thought mmmmmmmmm, but I didn’t pullt he trigger.
