Would that be an upgrade that is performed from the Windows Update website? Can you go to that website and check for updates to see if Win 7 is offered?

Thanks to all who responded. My Compaq/HP laptop came with Vista installed and bragged about it's being "upgradable to Windows 7," but at first I didn't try only because it seemed work OK but now I realize that I should have done so and am trying to work on it.

According to Windows/Gates, my computer is "upgradable" but for whatever reason, I'm either not doing all of the steps or just don't "get it."

Thanks to all for your suggestions, I'm going to work on this now while I'm being inspired to do so.
