“Welcome back to the USSR Romania. Idiots.”
Romania was never part of the USSR. It was only part of the communist block and had a Soviet imposed communist regime like Hungary, Poland or Czechoslovakia.
I read the Romanian newspapers a lot and it looks like while most of the population supports the newly elected socialist government because of the unpopular austerity measures, the majority of the people are disproving this blatant trampling on the constitution and the government power grab.
For a long time Ceausescu was “our favorite Commie” because he broke from the Soviet Union on several policies, including refusing to break relations with Israel following the 67 War.
Romania was the only Communist-bloc country that didn’t boycott the 1984 Summer Olympics.
“...most of the population supports the newly elected socialist government because of the unpopular austerity measures.”
While I agree with your post, let me humbly suggest we avoid employing the socialist lexicon when discussing so-called “austerity.”
Socialist lexicon:
Austerity = absence of government redistribution of wealth
Truth:
Freedom = absence of government redistribution of wealth
